Vancouver named best destination in Canada
As a major seaport and one of the country’s most diverse cities, Vancouver has gained a reputation as a tourist hot spot. In fact, the metropolis has been named the best travel destination in Canada by TripAdvisor’s 2015 Travelers’ Choice awards.
It is the city’s second year taking the No. 1 spot in the “Top 10 Destinations – Canada” category. TripAdvisor particularly highlighted the historic Gastown neighbourhood, where the city’s penchant for brewing has its roots and charming pubs line the streets.
Other stand-out aspects of Vancouver include the expansive parks, dense forestry, world-class museums and chic shopping options. The travel site also touted the city’s 140-metre-long Capilano Suspension Bridge, which dates back to 1889 and is truly an architectural marvel, serving as one of the most popular tourist spots in the coastal metropolis.
TripAdvisor isn’t the only organization that has recognized Vancouver as a must-visit location. In 2014, Travel + Leisure named it Canada’s top city, and the Economist Intelligence Unit selected Vancouver as 2010’s “Most Liveable City” in the world.
The Travelers’ Choice awards are designed to help users share their recommendations with other vacationers. Winners are carefully selected based on millions of reviews and comments provided by TripAdvisor users.
“These world-class destinations chosen by our community are rich in history, culture and beauty and offer endless sights to explore,” said Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor, in a statement.
