Romantic Getaway in Niagara Falls
As one of the most popular proposal, wedding, and anniversary spots on the planet, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to learn that Niagara Falls can be an incredibly romantic destination. Whether you are celebrating a first kiss or two decades of marriage, there is something magical about the falls and the scenic beauty of the area. The following suggestions are just some of the ways to enjoy a romantic getaway in Niagara Falls.
Go Wine Tasting With Your True Love
After you have had your fill of the falls, spending an afternoon or even a few days tasting the local wines can be a romantic way to spend time in Niagara Falls. The region is especially well-known for ice wines, which are a rich variety similar to port or sherry. Stop by Reif Winery, which offers a free first glass for tasting, or enjoy a full hour-long tour at nearby Inniskillin Winery. If you want to kick up the romance an extra notch, bring your special someone to Strewn Winery, which is a combination winery and cooking school. At their onsite restaurant Terrior La Cachette, you can order a tasting menu where each dish is perfectly paired with a local wine. Round it out with a chocolate dessert and a glass of champagne, and it will be impossible to deny the romance in the air.
Sparks Fly with Fireworks Over the Falls
During the day, the falls are a breathtaking sight to behold. With a drop of more than 51 metres, the spray created by both Horseshoe and Bridal Falls creates a magical aura that serves as the perfect backdrop for a kiss. The only way to improve on the scenery is to see it illuminated at night. Between May until September, Friday and Saturday nights boast a fireworks show at 10 pm that you have to see to believe. The bursts of light cast a glow of colour onto the falls, and the crowds around you will melt away as you take in the view. The best part about the Niagara Falls fireworks is that they can be seen from a variety of spots in the area including restaurants, bars, many hotels and even the multiple outdoor viewing platforms and nighttime cruises.
Take a Chance on Love at a Casino
If you want to do your best James Bond impersonation, the Niagara Fallsview Casino is the place to be. Whether you are trying to get lucky on the slot machines or impress someone with your skills at the blackjack table, the casino is a chance to dress up in your finest clothes and have a memorable experience. The name of the casino should be your first clue that Fallsview isn’t an ordinary gaming resort. The view from many of the resort’s rooms, and even the main gambling floor, overlooks Niagara Falls and is absolutely stunning. Along with soaking in the vistas, you can shop, unwind at the spa, indulge in some drinks with your love or just dance the night away at the upscale Dragonfly nightclub.
Sip a Cocktail on a Sunset Cruise
There are a number of different ways you can admire the natural scenic beauty of Niagara Falls, but few are more romantic than a sunset cruise at the base of the falls. The romantic cocktail cruises start just minutes before sunset, which allows you to see the changing colours of the horizon refracting on the water. As the sun sets, you’ll get a glimpse of the first stars popping out in the night sky. Onboard, there is a fully-stocked bar where you can pop a bottle of champagne to share or sip a classic martini with a view. There are other cruises that you can take around Niagara Falls, but there is no question that the sunset cocktail cruise is the best bet for passion and romance.
Enjoy a Meal with a Revolving View
Since Niagara Falls is a luxury destination with countless hotels, it shouldn’t be surprising to learn that there are also a number of wonderful restaurants in the area. However, there is just one eatery that offers upscale cuisine as well as a revolving view of the falls. The Revolving Restaurant, found at the top of the Skylon Tower, offers guests tables located at an elevation of 775 feet. The setting is spectacular no matter when you dine, but a sunset meal offers the best of the daylight and the night sky. If you are a foodie, you might be excited to learn that this location is far from all flash. The menu offers local ingredients, creative food combinations and dishes like grilled salmon with beurre blanc sauce, calamari with a balsamic glaze, the classic surf and turf, and a mouthwatering rack of lamb with herb mustard. Of course, dessert will compete with the falls to steal the show thanks to decadence in the form of homemade praline cheesecake, caramelised to order creme brulee, and a chocolate amaretto torte.
Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens
Just a few miles north of the falls is the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens, which can be a wonderful place to stroll hand in hand with your loved one. At more than 40 hectare in size, and with themed garden displays with a romantic, historic touch, the botanical gardens can give you a chance to escape the crowds and enjoy a few minutes of conversation alone. If the weather is too hot or too cold, the covered greenhouses are a delightful place to duck into and wait out the storm. There is even a butterfly conservatory where the winged beauties might land right on your outstretched arms, something you won’t ever want to forget.
Anyone planning a romantic getaway to Niagara Falls will be absolutely spoiled for choice when it comes to attractions and things to do. From romantic sunset cruises along the base of the falls to fireworks that illuminate the night sky, Niagara Falls is a fantastic place to spend time with that special person in your life.
