Let’s be honest, most of us have been spending our days inside daydreaming about jetting away somewhere exotic. I love you Canada, but I’ve been spending all my time planning my next adventure at my fave one stop travel shop Expedia, and the first chance I get, I’m outta here. What we don’t daydream about is the act of travelling, the long plane ride to said exotic destination. Why? Well because a lot of the time flights are stuffy, boring, and uncomfortable. But, it doesn’t have to be so bad. Expedia is the perfect travel companion, removing the friction of travel and helping travellers plan their trips from start to finish. Like finding the right airline and providing you with tips and tricks to ensure you have the best trip possible. Here are 6 long flight tips that will have your vacation starting off on the right foot.

  1. Pick Your Seat

Picking the right plane seat is probably one of the most important parts of a journey. Heck, no one wants the middle seat. There are a couple of ways to do this, either pay extra and guarantee your seat, choose it online 24hrs prior to your flight during online check in, or take a chance and ask the front desk at the airport. However you choose to pick that seat, take a moment to think about what works best for you. If you’re someone that likes to wander the aisles, or use the bathroom often then choose an aisle seat, that way you’re not asking people to move all the time. If you’re a sleeper, then the window seat is perfect for you, cuddle up and snooze the ride away.

  1. Pack A PPE Kit

Travelling looks a little different these days, and you want to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible while doing so. Pack yourself a little grab and go PPE kit. You can fill it with things like sanitizer, masks, and disinfecting wipes. It never hurts to give your seat an extra wipe down. This will not only provide you with extra safety, but also added piece of mind. You can never be too prepared.

  1. Dress For Comfort

Gone are the days when you would dress to the nines for a flight. No ones getting a spontaneous upgrade based on their outfits anymore. Today it’s all about comfort and I’m here for it. Forget the heels, forget the tight jeans, slouchy pants, cozy sweaters, and comfy running shoes are your best friend. Seriously, always opt for comfort over style, it will definitely come in handy when you want to catch some much needed sleep.

  1. Pack A Carry-On

After losing my bag one too many times on long haul flights, I have learnt my lesson to not only check a bag but to bring a carry-on. It’s a great way to transport all your long flight essentials but also your destination must haves. Having things like underwear, swimsuit, chargers, cameras, change of clothes, skincare, toothbrush, bug spray, sunscreen on hand are a must because, there’s nothing worse than arriving at a hot destination and only having the sweaty clothes on your back. It’s also a great place to store those extra snacks, $6 for plane Pringles?! I think not.

  1. Entertainment

Sure most planes offer cinematic entertainment, but it’s always a good idea to bring some of your own. So think ahead. Download your favourite binge worthy TV shows and podcasts, pack yourself a couple of good books and entertaining magazines, even your journal to get down some of your thoughts and feelings or plan your trip with Expedia’s list of things to do. An extra key to having enough entertainment is to bring a power bank that way you will be charged and ready to go. Having some additional entertainment will be sure to help the time go by a little quicker. Oh, and don’t forget your headphones!

  1. Sleep Essentials

When all else fails, sleep! Sure, easier said than done on a long cramped flight, but taking a nap on a long flight will help you feel refreshed when you land. With the right essentials you will be sure to catch some Z’s. This is where the carry-on comes in handy. Pack yourself an eye mask, neck pillow, blanket, some comfy socks and melatonin. Also ask the airline for an extra pillow for your back and blanket for added comfort.

I know emerging out of your homes and when possible to travel again, it  may seem a little daunting but with Expedia offering incredible support from start to finish you are sure to get the most out of your trip. Remember when it comes to travelling it’s all about comfort and efficiency, be sure to travel with a company you trust. Good luck on your future travels and have fun making new memories!
