Philae Temple, originally located near the Nile, was relocated to its present site approximately 500 metres away due to the rising water levels caused by the construction of the Aswan High Dam. This cradle of African civilisation saw the rise of the Kerma culture, flourishing from around 2500 BCE until its conquest by the Egyptian pharaoh Thutmose I around 1500 BCE.
