Your experience begins at Shantou Small Park (Shantou Xiaogongyuan), the century-old landmark in the heart of Shantou's old town. Upon arrival, you'll be seated at a small tea table and served a cup of authentic Chaoshan Duck-Shit Aroma (Yashixiang) Gongfu tea along with traditional tea snacks.
Then the highlight begins — a Yingge Dance performance, a nationally recognised intangible cultural heritage of China. The performers, dressed in vivid Ming-dynasty-style warrior costumes with painted faces, move to the rhythm of drums and gongs, wielding short sticks in powerful, synchronised motions. The dance tells the legendary storey of the 108 Liangshan heroes from the classic novel “Water Margin.”
The instructor will then teach you basic Yingge Dance steps and movements in a fun, hands-on session. You'll also follow the performers on a short parade through the area around the Small Park Pavilion, where you can feel the energy of this living folk tradition up close. The experience concludes with a group photo session alongside the costumed performers.
