What you can expect
Get to know San Salvador with a look at some of the most remarkable sights in the city. This full-day tour with your own personal guide features visits to grand colonial-era landmarks and lively markets, along with a ride out to the volcano that looms on the western horizon.
Once you meet your guide and set out from your hotel, you get a look at the main avenues of El Salvador's capital city. Cruise through the historic centre for a look at the majestic Metropolitan Cathedral, the century-old National Palace, and the French Renaissance-style National Theatre, the oldest Central American theatre still operating.
After you swing by the Gothic structure of El Rosario Church and see the Plaza Libertad, check out the wares at the San Salvador handicraft market and the municipal market of Antiguo Cuscatlán. In the afternoon, it's time to head out from the city for a visit to the massive San Salvador volcano. So large that a smaller volcano, known as El Boquerón, has formed within it, the site lets you enjoy a refreshing walk on nature trails that lead to a panoramic view of the crater.
On your way back to the city, your guide takes you sightseeing in the nearby community of Santa Tecla, where you can check out the neo-Gothic spires of the El Carmen Cathedral and the Neoclassical style of the Municipal Palace. You get a real sense of the natural, cultural, and historic approach that defines El Salvador before you return to your hotel.
