Description

Explore Switzerland from 3 breathtaking perspectives. First ascend the formidable Mount Pilatus, then glide over scenic Lake Lucerne in a boat, before finally enjoy free time in the charming city of Lucerne. The world's steepest cogwheel railway transports you down Mount Pilatus – a nail-biting ride.

After a stunning drive from Zurich to the town of Kriens, in the foothills of the Alps, board a gondola and then an aerial cable car for a truly unforgettable journey to the summit of Mount Pilatus. From here, inhale the fresh mountain air from 2,100 metres (7,000 feet) and gaze out over the incredible 360-degree panorama of the Alps.

Up here, you can head to a sunny terrace for a refreshing drink at one of several restaurants, before experiencing the descent on the steepest cogwheel railway in the world. Board a boat at Alpnachstad and venture across the picturesque lake to Lucerne, where you have time to explore this historic picture-perfect city centre at your leisure.

Mount Pilatus was my personal day tour choice to scale an Alps mountain due to its proximity to both Zurich and Lucerne. From the base you first take a gondola ride and then a cable car ride to get to the top station (in the photo). Then you can climb the steps to get up to the peak areas. Where warm clothing for the windy cold up there. You descend on a cog railroad train on the other side. Then you take a very enjoyable 75 minute boat ride on Lake Lucerne over to the City of Lucerne, while enjoying the beautiful Swiss alpine scenery. The only downside of this tour was that it left me only one hour to explore the City of Lucerne before the tour bus takes you back to Zurich.

I booked this tour to Mount Pilatus but since I was the only one to go to Mount Pilatus, I joined a group that was going to Mount Titlis. The guide asked me to change the tour and go to Mount Titlis with the group. I told her that I had booked a tour to Mount Titlis already. She contacted somebody over the phone to see if she could change the tour but she couldn't. I went to Mount Pilatus by myself and joined the group few hours later to come back to Zurich. Everything was OK for me, excepted that I was not able to do the Luzern city tour and it was included on my package. I paid for one tour but I got only half of them. I don't want to blame the guide for her decision and I believe she did the best that she could, but at the end, I didn't get what I paid for.
