Description

Explore the territory that separates North and South Korean on this tour to the Demilitarised Zone and its surrounding historic sites. Learn about the Korean Conflict as you visit the DMZ Theatre and Exhibition Hall, as well as nearby sites like Dorasan Station, Imjingak Park, and the 3rd Tunnel.

Get gathered from your Seoul hotel and start your morning by heading north to Imjingak Park. Built to console refugees who left North Korea during the conflict, the park features sites like the Mangbaedan altar, where refugees can bow in the direction of their ancestral graveyards, and the Freedom Bridge across which almost 13,000 prisoners of war were freed. Take your time exploring the park's attractions before moving to The 3rd Tunnel, an incomplete channel designed by North Korea that was discovered in 1978.

Continue your tour by visiting the DMZ Theatre and Exhibition Hall, where you can learn about the Korean War and the armistice that ended it. Spend time discovering exhibits that detail the military conflicts, as well as the unique ecosystem that the DMZ has fostered over the last 50 years. Head next to the northernmost station of South Korea, Dorasan Station. The historic building sits on the Gyeongui railway line that once connected North and South Korea. Make your final stop at Dora Observatory, where you can catch a glimpse of North Korean life on farms in the distance.

Even tho we could not get to it he DMZ, the alternate tour was great. This was thanks to the guide, Hai Yeongdong, who was both knowledgeable and entertaining with her own personal Korean experience through the stories she told. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

we didn't go to the DMZ due to the issue with the swine fever. we were offered another similar tour and we accepted. However whilst "jenny" was extremely helpful and knowledgeable she kept going on about the other tour that we COULD have been on.so the tour was OK at best but to be constantly reminded of the other tour and what we would have seen is not good. Its like she had and internal message that couldn't be turned off. apart from that we found JENNY very good and very engaging...just not the tour.

The full DMZ is closed due to swine flu but ViP did their best to get us close to the main sites and fill the tour with interesting facts. They offered a full refund as an alternative but if you want a 1/2 day tour that gets you close to the border and helps you understand the recent history of Korea then this is well worth while. The tour ends with 1.5 hrs at the Korean War memorial and museum to make up with the limited sites accessible at the DMZ. This was very interesting and quite a nice addition.
