What you can expect
As one of China's largest and liveliest cities, built on the shores of one of the country's greatest rivers, Chongqing has plenty of secrets to discover. With a full day to explore the city's monuments, museums, temples and creatures, this tour shows you a few of the attractions that make Chongqing a fascinating place to visit.
Get started with a visit to Eling Park, where you get a grand view of both the Yangtze and Jialing rivers. From there, head to the Chongqing Museum for a look at more than 3,000 years' worth of paintings, pottery, bronzeware and other relics in its 40 exhibition halls.
After lunch, visit the General Joseph W. Stilwell Museum, founded in memory of the American general who commanded the China Theater during World War II from his headquarters in Chongqing. Your next stop is at Arhat Temple, a 1,000-year-old Buddhist monastery that now stands wedged between skyscrapers and apartment blocks, still an active place of worship. The temple's impressive entrance is decorated with hundreds of terracotta sculptures.
Pay a visit to the Chongqing Zoo, where you can admire the pandas and other rare Chinese animals, before you return to your hotel and the tour comes to an end.
