What you can expect
Depart from Marrakech and reach Fes in 3 days, crossing the Sahara Desert with a stop in Merzouga. The tour is one-way and combines the High Atlas Mountains, the cultural sites of southern Morocco, a night in a desert camp and a camel ride through the Erg Chebbi dunes, before continuing on to Fes through the Ziz Valley and the cedar forest.
Day 1: Marrakech, High Atlas, Aït Ben Haddou and Tinghir
Pick-up from your accommodation in Marrakech and departure for the High Atlas. You'll cross the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, with panoramic views and photo stops. Visit Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its earthen architecture and for having been the location of numerous films. Continue to Ouarzazate and the Valley of the Roses to Tinghir, where hotel accommodation, a traditional dinner and an overnight stay await you.
Day 2: Tinghir, Todra Gorges, Touroug and Merzouga
After breakfast, you'll visit Todra Gorge, with a walk between the towering rock walls. Continue through the Touroug Oasis for a glimpse of traditional Berber life. After a lunch stop, you'll pass through Erfoud, known for its fossils, and arrive in Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara. Here, you'll go on a camel ride through the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, while your luggage is transported by 4x4. You can try sandboarding and arrive at the desert camp at sunset. The evening includes a traditional dinner, Berber music around the campfire and an overnight stay in the camp.
Day 3: Merzouga, Ziz Valley, Midelt, Ifrane and Fes
You wake up early to watch the sunrise over the dunes and return by camel. After breakfast, you'll depart for Fes: you'll pass through Erfoud and the Ziz Valley, with its palm groves and scenic viewpoints, and stop in Midelt for lunch. You then cross the Middle Atlas and visit the cedar forest near Azrou, where, if you're lucky, you can see Barbary macaques, and continue to Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco.” Arrival in Fes in the late afternoon.
