What you can expect

Follow the meandering Danube River into intriguing history and legend: the Wachau Region. Marvel at the picture-perfect Benedictine Abbey in Melk - a pearl of Austrian baroque architecture perched atop a hill overlooking the river. Explore this region's untouched countryside.

The drive from Vienna, where the river winds through charming old villages and steep vineyards, is truly breathtaking. Old castles dotted around the countryside give a good indication of their significance. Dürnstein Castle is especially famous, as it was here that King Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned while awaiting ransom from England.

During the summer months, enjoy a boat cruise along the river, where history comes to life before your eyes. Later, visit the Benedictine Abbey of Melk, one of Austria's most famous baroque buildings, which together with the Wachau area, was previously the winner of the Best Historic Destination of the World by National Geographic.

The tour is offered in two different options. Choose the one that suits you best. The all-inclusive Danube Valley option includes a boat trip and a visit to Melk Abbey.
