Wat Maheyong, a Buddhist monastery situated just outside the eastern end of the ancient city of Ayutthaya, stands in ruins despite undergoing multiple restoration efforts throughout its history. Originally built in the 15th century, it was likely intended as a meditation centre, and its red brick walls are still discernible from a distance. Recognised as a national historical site by Thailand's "Fine Arts Department," the monastery's ordination hall (ubosot) hosts religious ceremonies, with Buddhist monks actively encouraged to preside over these events during auspicious periods.
