Overview

It is the second highest volcano in Ecuador with a height of 5897 metres. It is located in the eastern mountain range of the Andes. It is surrounded by other mountains such as Sincholagua, Pasochoa, Rumiñahui, all within the avenue of volcanoes. With its wonderful symmetrical shape, it is an excellence stratovolcano, translated from Quichua into Spanish as the neck of the moon.

Arrival to the southern entrance of the Cotopaxi National Park. • Visit to Interpretacion Centre Mariscal. • Arrive to parking Area. • Explanation about volcano /animals/ plants/etc. • Start hiking to Jose Rivas Refugee (4800m). • After a short rest, hikes till the glaciers (5000m).
