What you can expect

Embark on an adventure as you explore the oft-overlooked southern side of Madeira on an exciting 4x4 expedition. Discover sleepy fishing villages tucked away on the coastline as well as majestic inland landscapes of towering mountains, gaping valleys, and a plateau stretching to the horizon.

From your accommodation in the southeast corner of the island, climb aboard your 4x4 and head west to an area often disregarded by other tours—to their detriment. Ascend to Paul de Serra, a plateau that offers far-reaching views of the island from nearly 5,000 feet (1,500 m) above sea level. Lush green valleys carve through a terrain that’s punctuated with rugged mountains, forming a near-perfect representation of the island’s diverse geography.

Cruise down from the mountain to the coast near Ponta do Pargo, where the island meets the sea at its most westerly point. Marvel at waves crashing against the steep cliffs as you breathe in the energising sea air. After lunch, take a stroll along the coastal pathways and stumble upon quiet fishing villages hidden from main roads.

At Calheta, enjoy views of a picturesque bay as waves kiss the beach’s shore before heading back to your accommodation.
