What you can expect

  • After picking up our guests, from the agreed meeting points, the first stop, Pico dos Barcelos, affords one a 360° view over beautiful Funchal. Moving on , after approximately 15 minutes, we are driven to Eira do Serrado , situated at 1094 metres altitude, after having viewed green valleys and ravines , along the way. It is here that you will be afforded an opportunity, to do an easy short stroll, along a well guarded mountain path , to a breathtaking view point, overlooking the Nuns Valley village , known as Curral das Freiras . After 35 minutes at Eira do Serrado , we are driven down to Curral das Freiras , where the nuns , from Funchal , sought refuge , over the centuries , from marauding pirates, from the year 1566 and onwards. In the centre of the village , the brightly coloured interior of the small church is interesting. Curral das Freiras is also known for its cuisine , based on the valley's sweet chestnuts , including traditional soups, main courses, desserts, liquors, cakes, cheesecakes and chestnut beer. After 45 minutes , the bus leaves to go back to Funchal .
