Activity itinerary

Amador Causeway (Calzada de Amador)

  • 1h
The Amador Causeway is one of the most beautiful waterfront destinations in Panama City, connecting the mainland to four small islands at the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal. Built using rocks excavated during the construction of the canal, this scenic road offers spectacular views of the Panama City skyline, the Pacific Ocean, and ships waiting to enter the canal. It is a popular place for walking, cycling, taking photographs, enjoying the ocean breeze, and discovering Panama’s coastal atmosphere. The Causeway is also an excellent place to stop for lunch or dinner, with several restaurants offering fresh seafood, Panamanian cuisine, international dishes, and waterfront dining. Visitors can relax at a restaurant overlooking the ocean, enjoy a meal with views of the city skyline, or have a refreshing drink while watching the sunset over the Pacific.

Biomuseo (Pass by)

The Biomuseo area is one of the most distinctive places to visit in Panama City, located at the entrance to the Amador Causeway, near the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal. Designed by the world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, the colourful Biomuseo celebrates Panama’s natural history and its important role in connecting North and South America, allowing species to migrate between the continents. The surrounding area offers beautiful waterfront scenery, walking paths, and spectacular panoramic views of Panama City’s modern skyline, with its impressive skyscrapers rising along the Pacific coast. From this location, visitors can enjoy excellent photo opportunities featuring the city, the ocean, and ships navigating near the canal entrance. It is an ideal stop for sightseeing, photography, and appreciating the contrast between Panama’s modern architecture, tropical landscape, and maritime heritage.

Casco Viejo

  • 40m

Casco Antiguo, also known as the Old Town of Panama City, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site founded in 1673 after the original Panama City was destroyed by pirates. Its charming streets feature colourful colonial buildings, historic churches, beautiful plazas, and elegant balconies that reflect Spanish, French, and neoclassical architectural influences. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the modern city skyline, explore local shops, taste traditional Panamanian cuisine, and discover the history and culture that make this historic district one of Panama’s most fascinating destinations.

Agua Clara Locks

  • 1h 30m
  • Admission ticket not included
The Agua Clara Locks are part of the Panama Canal’s impressive expansion, inaugurated in 2016 to allow larger vessels to transit between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Located near Colón on the Caribbean side of Panama, this modern lock system uses enormous water-filled chambers and gravity-fed water-saving basins to raise and lower Neopanamax ships. From the visitor observation area, you can watch massive cargo ships, container vessels, and other commercial ships navigate the locks while learning about the engineering, history, and global importance of the Panama Canal. The Agua Clara Visitor Centre also offers spectacular views of Gatun Lake, the surrounding tropical rainforest, and the Atlantic entrance to the canal, making it an excellent stop for visitors interested in Panama’s maritime history, nature, and world-famous engineering achievements.

Gatun Locks

  • 35m
  • Admission ticket not included
The Gatun Locks are one of the most important and historic parts of the Panama Canal, located on the Caribbean side near Colón. Opened in 1914, this original lock system uses three consecutive chambers to raise ships approximately 26 metres (85 feet) above sea level to Gatun Lake, allowing vessels to cross the Isthmus of Panama between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Unlike the newer Agua Clara Locks, Gatun operates with the original lock system, using gravity to move water in and out of the chambers. At the Gatun Locks Visitor Centre, visitors can observe ships passing through the locks at close range and learn about the remarkable engineering, history, and international trade that have made the Panama Canal one of the world's most important waterways.
