Description

This half-day trip of hiking and paddling on the Wailua River is a must-do activity while on Kauai. With an easy-going voyage in a tandem kayak and a moderate hike to a beautiful waterfall, you can truly appreciate the diversity and stunning beauty of the island, an outdoor enthusiast's paradise.

Enjoy the serene surroundings of the Wailua River as you paddle in a tandem kayak. Your local guides share the rich Hawaiian history and legends of the Wailua River Valley while serenading you with a ukulele or sharing local music. After paddling up the river’s North Fork, begin your moderate 2-mile (3-km) hike through a tropical rainforest.

Make your way along the muddy trail and admire the views of the sacred valley lined with scenic waterways, Hawaiian ruins and native flora and fauna. FANTASTIC!!! We loved the entire trip! I'd never kayaked before this trip and was a little nervous, but there was no need. Our guide, Ryan, was wonderful, very helpful and full of knowledge. The hiking portion was so much fun, as well. MUDDY for sure, but so much fun. The falls were breathtaking. Definitely recommend wearing tennis shoes. Tevas/Chacos/watershoes are a bad idea. The people on our trip wearing them were slipping considerably more than those of us wearing tennis shoes and at least one person's water shoes broke. Those of us wearing tennis shoes were much more sure-footed. The shoes get very muddy, however, mine washed up just fine and were no worse for wear (incredible, really, given the amount of mud). Bring lots of water, bug spray & sunscreen and pack a lunch.

Guide was very knowledgeable not only about the environments we were travelling through, but also the Hawaiian history of the area. Coo, the dog, was an inspiration for all. When they say it is a muddy trail for the hike, they are not joking. Bring shoes that you can get muddy and wet. Sandals are okay but are slippery between the foot and the sandal when filled with mud. Pack a lunch and plenty of water, there is time to enjoy it at the waterfall.
