Los Cabos Refresh
The calm before the storm in 2014 in Los Cabos was long and enjoyable. One of Mexico’s most popular destinations was enjoying the kind of tourism season they were used to – returning clientele and satisfied guests were everywhere. No one was expecting Hurricane Odile to hit the area. No one predicted the devastation it would wreak.
Less than a year later the area is well on its way to being better than it ever was. The locals who never left are anxiously awaiting guests and the reviews from those who’ve already returned are glowing.
Hotels are re-opening after having taken the time to overhaul their spaces and fine-tune their offerings. For some Odile provided an opportunity to take their service levels and in-resort offerings to an even higher calibre than before. Here are three hotels that are better than ever and make Los Cabos well worth a visit.
One&Only Palmilla
Anyone familiar with luxury is well aware of the One&Only brand. Their locations around the world are always set in incredible spots that perfectly showcase their luxurious offerings. One&Only Palmilla re-opened this month with new experiences, restaurants and accommodations.
Not to be Missed: The new restaurant SEARED by Jean-Georges Vongerichten. A glass-walled curing room offers a peek into where the magic happens and al fresco dining allows you to experience the new ocean-facing terrace. Add to that an all new 22,000 square foot spa offering treatments in 13 private villas, Barber and Blade – an exclusive men’s salon, and new signature treatments at the Pedi:Mani:Cure Studio, and its easy to see why it remains a popular pick. Plus, One&Only Palmilla is situated on the only swimmable resort beach in Los Cabos.
This collection of luxury resort residences was hit during the hurricane but one of the first back on its feet when it was over. The 22-acre private beach club setting means it’s still a huge draw for people looking for a condo resort experience.
Not to be missed: The restored beach front, full service spa (try offerings that focus on Mexican culture) and water sport activities (Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga anyone?) will keep you busy. Hacienda Cocina Y Cantina is a popular dining spot for visitors and locals alike.
It’s proximity the the Arch of Los Cabos also makes it a prime pick for snorkelers and Instagrammers, or those who want to take things in from the nearby Marina.
Resort at Pedregal
New management after the hurricane has only enhanced the offerings at Resort at Pedregal. You’ll still find the 5-star luxury services you’re used to but a renewed energy is there too. From personal concierge services to rooms where the view from your plunge pool is unmatched, you’re unlikely to find any reason to leave the resort.
Not to be missed: Looking for a tranquil spot to enjoy the surroundings? Tuck into La Estancia, an open-air living room where you are might catch whales jumping in the surf during a gorgeous sunset. Or head for the spa, aptly titled Luna Y Mar (Moon and Sea). Its treatments seamlessly incorporate Mexican folk healing techniques that are guaranteed to leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.
