Where to find the best views of Hong Kong at night

I can’t think of a city that dazzles at night quite like Hong Kong. When there is no place to build but up, you get a skyline that consists of towering skyscrapers as far as the eye can see; you can only imagine what that looks like when the sun goes down and the lights come on! In today’s post I’m sharing some of the best spots to soak in Hong Kong’s nighttime views:

Tour Victoria Harbour aboard a junk boat

A great way to soak in Hong Kong’s nighttime views is by going on an evening cruise. The iconic junk boats that sit on Victoria Harbour speak of a bygone era, yet while these boats may no longer sail the high seas, you can enjoy a pleasant outing aboard them. There are all sorts of options which range from 1-hour cocktail cruises to 3-hour harbour tours with dinner, so take your pick and bring your camera!

Watch the Symphony of Lights

The Symphony of Lights is a fun light show that takes place every night along Victoria Harbour. When the clock strikes 8:00 p.m. both sides of the harbour come to life in a spectacle of laser beams and colourful lights that are synchronized to music. While both sides put on a great performance, the best views are enjoyed from the Avenue of the Stars on the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront (also a great location if you’re looking to snag a hotel room with a spectacular view). The best part of this attraction? It is completely free of charge!

Views from Victoria Peak

Take in the views from Victoria Peak

The great thing about the Peak Tram is that is runs until midnight, which gives you plenty of time to get to the top and enjoy a bird’s eye view of the city below. This is the highest point on Hong Kong Island and the views are pretty stellar.

Hop on the Big Bus for a nighttime tour of the city

Your legs will be begging for a break after a long day of exploring, so why not give them one by hopping aboard the Big Bus for a different look at the city. The Big Bus Night Tour is a 1-hour long panoramic tour of Kowloon and it really showcases the bright lights and flashing neon signs that illuminate this city. The loop provides great photo ops, and it’s a fun way to wind down the day.

Hong Kong's night markets

And lastly, there’s shopping! Hong Kong’s night markets are an experience in their own right; when the workday ends, locals like to go out and shop en masse! The Temple Street Night Market and the Ladies’ Night Market are two of the best-known markets worth checking out. Not only are there great deals to be had, but the atmosphere is buzzing. Grab some street food, catch a street performance, and see what random knick-knacks you can find.
