Apple Watch holds promise for travellers
The Apple Watch, already the subject of plenty of buzz across the Internet, just might be a traveller's best friend. Hotels and other travel businesses are taking advantage of the watch's capabilities, with some going so far as to enable unlocking hotel doors with the watch alone, according to CNBC. Integration may require some tweaking, but travel companies that have begun to create Apple Watch apps aren't too worried:
"The sooner you're up there with an app, the sooner you'll get to test it and see how customers use it," Lorraine Sileo, senior vice president with travel market research company Phocuswright, told CNBC. "And the sooner you'll get to come out with new applications."
Many airlines have created apps that will work on the Apple Watch, allowing travellers to see gate assignments and delay information. Travel companies are trying to create a personal experience in real time for travellers accessing their apps through the watch.
The Apple Watch also offers the service of Siri, the digital assistant that can help with everything from finding hotels to creating a list of pizza joints, according to The New York Times. While there are still bugs to be ironed out and a few minor inconveniences (sometimes Siri's answers will appear on a user's iPhone instead of the watch), some avid travellers are interested in making the Apple Watch part of their usual luggage, like the author of the Times piece on the gadget.
