Hot water was often not available, and the drain was blocked causing the bathroom to flood anytime the water was turned on. The room although clean felt damp, smelled musty, and there was mould on the walls. (1,001 reviews) I paid \~$350/night so I'm not too upset about this but I found the food to be quite bad and the drinks subpar. The beach itself is quite nice though. The rooms feel like a touch above a random motel you'd find in the states. The rates at this place swing quite a lot so if I paid anymore than this I'd feel totally robbed. That being said, the staff are friendly and helpful. I think it's overall this is a get-what-you-pay-for situation. (1,000 reviews) The check-in process was a bit tedious, but that was due to Expedia, not the hotel. To keep a positive experience, the hotel staff was very kind and upgraded us to a beautiful room. We were a family of four, including a 7-year-old child, and each of us had our own bed and private bathroom, which was excellent. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming, from the front desk staff to the waiters, and especially the bar staff. The entertainment was excellent; the girl who organized the karaoke had great charisma and energy. The weather was on our side, with sunny days throughout our stay. The food at the Blue Lagoon restaurant was delicious . we absolutely loved it. The entire resort staff is humble, respectful, and very kind. Recommendations: • I didn’t really like the “guagua” shuttle; I think a large golf cart would look better and feel more comfortable. • At the bars, drinks were often served in plastic cups, which takes away from the presentation. However, at the beach they used nicer cups, and we were able to take great photos there. (1,359 reviews) 2 star room on a 4 star resort - Just returned from a 5 day, 4 night stay at the Lifestyle Tropical resort in Puerto Plata, DR. Lots to say, starting w/ the positives: 1\. The resort itself, especially the beach area, is beautiful & well taken care of 2\. Staff is super friendly & helpful 3\. The spa experience was excellent Areas that need significant improvement: 1\. The toilet was broken and needed to be plunged by maintenance staff every day 2\. The shower water was lukewarm at best every day 3\. The towels in the room were old and poor quality 4\. The sliding door to the patio didn't close all the way, it let in bugs even when locked 5\. Metal pieces of furnishings (e.g., closet door handles) were very rusty 6\. Wood furnishings (e.g., desk) were badly scuffed and in poor condition 7\. Some days the "new" sheets placed on the bed had stains 8\. The room had a mildewy odor With respect to the toilet, after complaining that it did not flush and got stuffed, we were told not to flush toilet paper, that no one in the DR does this. That is false, everyone flushes toilet paper. But we even tried this anyway and the toilet still got stuffed. Clearly it was broken. We were also charged an additional $265 because our son, who stayed with me & my wife in our room, was 15 years old and therefore an adult. Firstly - I was not prompted when booking to enter his age.
