We'll start at our agency or pick you up at your accommodation at 7:00 a.m. to begin our journey to Villarrica National Park, which is 50 kilometres from Pucón. The first town we'll pass through is Curarrehue, which means “Stone Altar” in Mapudungun, the native language of the Araucanians. This territory is shaped by glaciers. We'll continue climbing through the Trankura Valley, surrounded by beautiful rock walls. We'll arrive at the park, where we'll prepare our gear and start the hike through a forest of coihue and raulí trees for a distance of 3.2 kilometres with an elevation gain of 700 metres. At the top, we'll find ancient araucaria trees, and the forest opens up to reveal the rock gully and araucaria trees growing in its crevices. Here we'll take a short break to put on our helmets, stow our poles, and enjoy the beautiful views of the valley.
The next section is very interesting and fun. It covers a distance of 700 metres with an elevation gain of 400 metres. We arrive at the base of the route, a magical place surrounded by towers and giant rocks where the shelters are located. Here, there is a small valley with crystal-clear water surrounded by chauras, a true paradise, with rock climbs and sections with fixed ropes. At the end of the gully, we reach the base of the route, a magical place surrounded by towers and giant rocks where the shelters are located. Here, there is a small valley with crystal-clear water surrounded by chauras. A paradise in the mountains. From the main towers, we'll enjoy incredible views of Las Peinetas or Sierra Millallifen, which stands at 2,018 metres above sea level, Punta Lanín, and the main tower, as well as panoramic views of Lake Tromen and the Villarrica, Lanín, and Quinquil volcanoes. Most of the time, we'll be accompanied by Andean condors with their spectacular flights. Here, we'll take a break, admire the place, have a snack to celebrate, and prepare our gear for the descent into the valley.
After enjoying incredible views, we'll begin the descent along the same route. The guide will explain the instructions for the descent, as we'll have to perform rappelling manoeuvres. After descending for 4 hours, we'll reach the transport, where we'll have fresh juice or craft beer and a snack to round off this mountain experience. Then we'll head back to the agency or drop you off at your accommodation.
