What you can expect

South of Kathmandu, legend and landscape intertwine. This journey traces the valley's oldest myth: how a great lake was drained by the sword of a bodhisattva, through the gorge where it happened, the sacred lake it left behind, and the hillside caves where Guru Rinpoche himself is said to have meditated into enlightenment. The day ends at Dakshinkali, one of Nepal's most powerful Hindu shrines, where devotion runs raw and unfiltered. This is Kathmandu's quieter, more mystical face- remote, atmospheric, and rich with living tradition.

Hotel Pickup: Your guide and driver meet you at your hotel for a day exploring the valley's spiritual south.

Chovar Gorge: Visit the narrow rocky gorge where, according to legend, the valley's ancient lake was drained to create habitable land. A site tied to the origin storey of the Kathmandu Valley itself.

Taudaha Lake: Continue to this tranquil, crescent-shaped lake, considered the sacred abode of the Naga serpent deities and a haven for migratory birds.

Pharping Asura Cave & Yanglesho Cave: Climb into the hillside town of Pharping to visit the meditation caves associated with Guru Rinpoche, revered across the Himalayan Buddhist world as sites of spiritual attainment.

Tibetan Monasteries of Pharping: Explore the colourful monasteries built into the hillside, where monks continue centuries-old rituals and chants.

Dakshinkali Temple: Descend to this powerful shrine dedicated to the goddess Kali, tucked at the confluence of two rivers. It is one of the valley's most visceral and unfiltered windows into living Hindu ritual.
