This historical tour of the Old city centre of Alexandria, named as such due to being founded by Alexander the Great in 332 B. C, will let you have a chance to encounter the less visited, not as common must see spots, that other regular itineraries won't give you the chance to: a panoramic view of the old eastern city harbour, Saint Mark Cathedral's hidden galleries that not many know about, the biggest and oldest mosque in the city plus an optional local food experience.
Start your day with pickup from your accommodation in a comfortable vehicle. The car will take you to the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, an underground tomb dating to the 2nd century AD. Then drive to Pompey’s Pillar, also known as the Serapeum temple, dating back to the 2nd century BC and primarily dedicated to the ancient main god of Alexandria, for a photo stop.
You will then be driven to the Library of Alexandria, a modern library built close to the old one. Admire the building’s design, which is admired by many, and visit its free modern galleries. The library is closed on Fridays and public holidays. Then drive to Qaitbay Fort. An old fort from the 15th century A. D. that was built close to the ancient city's lighthouse location.
After this, we'd go back to our starting point to finish the tour, unless you'd want to be left in a different place.
This tour takes approximately 11 hours, including about 6 hours for pickup and drop-off from Cairo and about 5 hours of touring.
