What you can expect

  • Manta rays are some of the ocean's most gentle and majestic creatures, and this tour lets you enjoy close encounters with them in as beautiful an environment as you can imagine. Head out to sea at sunset for a snorkelling adventure that lets you see the rays in the shimmering moonlight.

The Kona coast is the ideal location for encountering these gentle giants. After boarding a comfortable vessel, nibble on fresh island fruit and sip refreshing drinks as you make your way out to prime snorkelling territory. Take in gorgeous views of the setting sun before reaching the dive site and getting fitted for your gear.

After an onboard orientation about your equipment and the manta rays themselves, enter the water and grab hold of a “light board,” which is designed to attract plankton and, consequently, manta rays. The warm, clear water is illuminated and very welcoming throughout your experience.

Float around the surface marvelling at rays dancing and somersaulting jubilantly beneath you. Some of these majestic creatures' wingspans reach as much as 13 feet (4 m). Keep an eye out for schools of fish and lights from other snorkellers attracting plankton the rays rely on.

After acquainting yourself with the behaviour of these fascinating animals, get back in the boat for the journey back to Kona. Sip a cup of hot cocoa and do some stargazing as you approach the Kona coast.
