About this property

2 Bed in Whitby (oc-w970b)

  • A characterful and colourful cottage tucked away in a pretty yard in the centre of Whitby, around 100 metres from its famous quayside. Featuring a homely lounge, ample kitchen/diner and an enclosed rear garden, this seaside-themed cottage is ideal for families or two couples interested in the history and culture of the North Yorkshire Coast.

Set between Cliff Street and Haggersgate, the cottage is accessed via steps leading off Bakehouse Yard, one of the area’s most popular thoroughfares. The neatly presented lounge is a welcoming space, with a wood burner-effect electric fire and comfy sofas. Head through to the light and bright kitchen/diner for sociable meals, over which you can plan the next day's adventures. A staircase in the lounge leads up to the first floor, home to a double bedroom and bunk bedroom. Up here you'll also find the family bathroom, where you can enjoy a relaxing soak in the tub or a refreshing shower. Outside, you'll find a small, attractive enclosed garden.

Whitby’s vibrant quayside lies within 100 metres of the cottage, an area dominated by shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Whitby’s old town, found across the River Esk via the famous Swing Bridge, offers a unique glimpse into the area’s past and is home to a host of cultural and historical attractions. The abbey ruins (within 0.5 miles) are well worth the 199-step climb from the old town, not least for the view of the harbour and the pier that reaches out into the North Sea. The winding streets and vast beach at Robin Hood’s Bay (7 miles) are always worth exploring if there is a day to spare, while the natural scenery of the North York Moors National Park (2.5 miles) is simply incredible.

There was nowhere to park near the cottage to unload/load the car,we did manage to find a private car park which we shouldn't have been on,we did tell a resident, who came out to ask us what we were doing,we explained to him that we were loading the car and would be 5 minutes he was ok with that, then someone else pulled onto the car park he shouted abuse at us and deliberately blocked us in with his car, this sent our stress and anxiety through the roof, not the sort of thing you want when you're supposed to be relaxing. The actual car park for the cottage was about a mile away, although it was free for us.The walk to the car park was mostly uphill, not good if you have any sort of disability. The cottage hasn't got WI-FI and the phone signal in that area is appalling, that made it impossible to go online to find places to visit. On a plus side, the cottage was comfortable and cosy/ clean and the beds were comfortable. Some of the kitchen utensils needed washing before we used them.Peter, Debbie and Lilly May.1 week from 23rd May.
