Castle Aggstein, Wachau valley, Austria 

Aggstein Castle (German: Burgruine Aggstein, lit. "castle ruins of Aggstein") is a ruined castle on the right bank of the Danube in Wachau, Austria. The castle dates to the 12th century. Aggstein Castle is 480 metres (1,570 ft) above sea level, which means it rises some 300 meters over the Danube river valley. It was used until half of the 17th century and restaured in 2004. Since then it is one of the most popular castles in Lower Austria, having some 55.000 visitors each year. « La note attribuée à l’établissement n’est pas du tout justifiée. L’accès à l’appartement n’est pas pratique du tout. On doit se garer devant une épicerie pour avoir les clés, puis la traverser avec les bagages et aller à l’étage pour accéder à l’appartement. Le parking est à 600m de l’appartement. La propreté laissait à désirer (sang de mouche écrasée sur la fenêtre non lavée). La poubelle était ouverte donc les odeurs était présentes. Bien entendu elle n’était pas enlevée de façon quotidienne....

« Was very disappointed to walk in and discover the common areas reeked of cigarette smoke. After contacting the host they agreed to send the cleaner back who left a passive-aggressive note telling us she had cleaned thoroughly already. The rest of the rooms were decent but left much to be desired. The linens were dingy.The location is great. Short walk to the main areas and next to transit to the rest of the Wachau Valley. »
