A 16th-century fortress in one of the biggest cities in Russia. It's also another of my favorite sites in this country. Nizhny Novgorod is a very beautiful city, with many great churches. But this Kremlin really stands out. It was built between 1508-1515 and in 1949 underwent a restoration. The new mosque connects the old Kazan Khanate with modern Russian and Islamic architecture, and serves to keep the memory of the original 16th century mosque alive.
