I have tried to reach out on several occasions to Heathman management in regards to this issue, but alas I am here to write my review. We stayed at the Heathman in two rooms on thanksgiving. We arrived about 8pm with a tired baby. My check in was not pleasant. The front desk supervisor checked us in. When I went to swipe my card I mentioned this was only for one room and there should be a second room as well. Her response was “oh, well you didn’t tell me that.” It was rude but we were beyond tired. After we received our keys my husband ran back in to get a luggage cart and was told there wasn’t one available because they were being used to move tables, but they would get one for him. I went inside the lobby to wait with the baby and the luggage while I waited. No luggage cart came. The lobby was almost completely empty. There were about 10-15 staff members joking and hanging out in the lobby area. After about 15 minutes with no sign of a luggage cart I proceeded to find someone on the other side of the stairs to ask about it. We packed up everything and as we proceeded to the elevators I had to ask a group of employees to move. We got to our rooms to realize the rooms had double beds instead of queens. The following morning my sister let me know she checked out but her room was dirty. She didn’t realize until middle of the night. There was still garbage in cans and the soap had been used. This lodge is very cozy and we enjoyed our winter stay. The Heathman Lodge was beautifully decorated for Christmas and even had a cute little ginger bread house contest for local artists. Our room was very spacious and clean. I largely enjoyed my stay at the Heathman Lodge. It is a nice hotel with a bit of rustic character, unlike the dull and very formulaic chains. The room was comfortable and quiet and the staff were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately breakfast was not available due to some renovation work but there was an IHOP only 10 minutes’ walk away. My only disappointment was a nasty little surprise when checking out. Having paid for the room in advance and not used any optional services I wasn’t expecting any incidentals, but I had been charged a $15 ”Facilities Fee”. I asked what this was and was told it covered things like the parking(!), the pool, the gym and a couple of other amenities. These, as well as being pretty standard at hotels at this price level, were all cited in the Expedia listing, and any of them could have formed the basis of my choice of this hotel (although not in my case as I didn’t make use of any of them). So I feel that these should be included in the room rate and can see no justification for levying a $15 surcharge which is not mentioned anywhere in the Expedia listing.
