#### With its varied art displays and its vistas of passing ships and submarines, this cylindrical fort is a major historical attraction on the Millennium Promenade.

The Round Tower is a 15th-century fortification of Tudor design on the southern end of the Portsmouth Harbour. Overlooking the sea, the site’s roof is open to visitors, providing excellent views of the water and the surrounding Old Town. Visit the Round Tower to watch the boats pass by in the busy port from the viewing platform on the rooftop.

Snap photos of this cylindrical fortress, with the adjacent Square Tower forming an imposing foreground. Notice the green lower layer of the waterside exterior, which indicates the fluctuating water levels of the tides. Stroll beside the historic wall that was built in the 17th century to link the two towers on the coast.

The Round Tower has a rich and intriguing history. The stone structure from the 1400s replaced an earlier wooden model constructed to defend against French raids.

Go on a coastal walk along the scenic Millennium Promenade. On a pleasant day, climb to the top of the tower for views stretching as far as Gosport and the Isle of Wight. With luck, you’ll spot an iconic ship or submarine passing by on the water.

The tower is today part of the Hotwalls Studios, showcasing an array of art exhibits.

Access to the rooftop viewing deck is free it is open to the public at all times. The interior is open only occasionally. On these open days, venture inside the attraction and admire its 19th-century vaulted brick ceiling.

The Round Tower marks the southern boundary of Portsmouth Harbour in the Old Town district. Take a bus to a nearby stop or walk here from the heart of the harbor area.

While in the district, make sure to visit other nearby highlights such as the Portsmouth Museum, the Royal Garrison Church and Clarence Pier.

The room was not cleaned properly - red dust ! on the side table - moths in the towel in the bathroom. Food very poor in the restaurant. It’s a shame as the main building is a thing of beauty but the lodges and the food I ordered on the night are very poor. Almost £7.00 for a beer is a little too heavy also.

The whole building was unique. unusual but very comfortable. We could have done with another chair in the Room.....but other than that fine. 'Mine host ' was very friendly and helpful. We had a bit of banter.
