The Neighborhood:
Glebe is one of Sydney's most loved inner-west neighbourhoods — leafy, walkable, and packed with character. Victorian terraces line the streets, independent bookshops sit alongside long-running cafes, and the whole suburb has a village feel despite being minutes from the city.
Sydney Fish Market is your closest landmark, a short walk down Bridge Road. Recently rebuilt and expanded, it's one of the largest seafood markets in the Southern Hemisphere — browse the displays, grab oysters and sashimi to eat by the water, or buy fresh and cook at home.
Glebe Point Road is the neighbourhood's spine, running north from Broadway to Blackwattle Bay and lined with places worth your time:
Glebe Point Diner — a local institution for seafood and seasonal cooking
Darling Glebe — French fine dining and cocktails in a beautifully restored space
The Charlie — relaxed restaurant and bar with a lovely courtyard
Prego Glebe — excellent casual chicken and takeaway
Plus long-standing cafes, bakeries, and the much-loved Gleebooks
Glebe Markets run every Saturday on the Glebe Public School grounds — vintage clothing, records, plants, and street food. It's a genuine local institution, not a tourist trap.
Green space and water are close at hand: Wentworth Park is right beside you, while Jubilee and Bicentennial Parks follow the waterfront around Blackwattle Bay with harbour views and a walking path toward the Anzac Bridge. Tramsheds Harold Park, a converted tram depot now filled with food halls and providores, is a pleasant 15-minute walk west.
For everything else, Broadway Sydney shopping centre is a 12-minute walk — full supermarkets, cinema, and major retail — and the University of Sydney campus sits just beyond it.
Getting Around:
Light Rail — the easy option
The Glebe light rail stop is a 3–4 minute walk from the front door on the L1 Inner West line. From there:
Darling Harbour / The Star: ~6 minutes
Central Station: ~10 minutes
Sydney Fish Market stop: 1 stop (or just walk)
One note: the pathway up to the Glebe stop is fairly steep — the Fish Market stop is a flatter alternative if you're travelling with luggage.
Buses
Frequent services run along Glebe Point Road and Parramatta Road/Broadway, connecting to the CBD, Newtown, Leichhardt, and the eastern suburbs.
