Casa Vióla

Delightful villa with beautiful, panoramic sea, coastal, and mountain views. Located in a quiet and peaceful area near the village of Agios Nektarios between Chora Sfakion and Frangokastello on the south coast of Chania, the villa is perfectly situated for a relaxing holiday in a pristine and authentic environment.

Casa Vióla is named after the owner’s love of the violin and Cretan lyra. A collection of the owner’s hand-made instruments is presented as part of the décor in the living room and dining area.

On the ground floor, this functional villa of 180 m2 includes a large open living room/dining area/kitchen, and bathroom with shower. The kitchen accesses the back terrace with lovely views to the mountains and the property’s vineyard, and side views of the sea. The entrance of the villa is connected to the main terrace with its outdoor lounge which is naturally shaded by pretty Mulberry trees. This area also leads to the salt water swimming pool of 8X5X1,5 meters (built in 2023) with sunbeds, and the pergola-covered outdoor dining area.

The first floor includes 3 spacious bedrooms, and a bathroom with corner shower tub. Each of the bedrooms have access to a balcony with wonderful views. Two of the bedrooms have extra-large beds (two 100X220 cm) which on the photos are put together, but can be separated. The third bedroom has a double bed size 180X200 cm, and in addition 2 twin beds size 80X190 cm intended for children. The villa can thus easily accommodate 6 adults and 2 children.

The surroundings are beautiful, with only one immediate neighbour. There are endless walking/hiking paths right outside the door, and the sea is merely minutes away by car. The little settlement of Agios Nektarios near the villa has 2 churches and a botanical garden.

Several stunning beaches are within minutes by car from the villa, Vatalos (with an excellent taverna) being the nearest. Other nearby beaches with good places to dine are Frangokastello, Orthi Ammos, and Koutelo.

Sfakia is the perfect starting point for exploring the beautiful south coast of Crete. The area has countless opportunities for hiking and discovering the beautiful and awe-inspiring ravines and mountains. Sfakia is famous for its approximately 50 ravines, the most famous being Samaria, Imbros, and Aradena.

Visiting picturesque Chora Sfakion, the area’s main village and approx. 15 minutes by car, is a must. Chora Sfakion is also the gateway to the village of Loutro, the beach of Marmara, the settlement of Phonix, and other beautiful and pristine beaches only accessible by boat.

From the villa on a clear day, one can glimpse the islands of Gavdos and Gavdopoula, 22 nautical miles south of Crete. Gavdos with its 50 inhabitants is a small, beautiful green island with unforgettable sandy beaches and views. You can reach Gavdos by ferry or by an organized boat trip.

Notos Mare Marine Adventures in Chora Sfakion offers diving, boat rentals, organized boat trips, taxi-boat, etc. Similar excursions are also offered in Frangokastello as well as fishing trips organized by locals, and guided / independent ATV adventures from Sfakia Quad Experience.

All beds and linen, and various furniture are new as of May 2023, and the villa has been newly painted both indoors and out.

Casa Vióla is comfortably furnished and decorated with a careful blend of the traditional and contemporary. The 10.000 m2 property is private, partly enclosed, and has ample parking for 3-4 cars. Most of the garden is by choice left wild, allowing the natural flora to flourish. Local trees, shrubs, flowers, and waves of the tall Cretan grass “maza”, heather, and wild savory adorn the property. Guests can enjoy the garden bed with a selection of Cretan thyme, rosemary, and other herbs, and there are also trees of lemon, carob, olive, pomegranate, fig, almond, prickly pear, and bay leaf.

Please note: Mainly during the summer months of July and August (but occasionally also in June and September), Casa Vióla can be exposed to the strong, dry, prevailing northerly wind “Meltemi”, normally subsiding in the afternoon. On such days, the beaches of Orthi Ammos in Frangokastello and the beach at Chora Sfakion and Illingas are recommended.
