Groot terras. De rivier is eigenlijk een stuwmeer. Prachtige omgeving, maar wel geleden onder de bosbranden in 2017\. Wel weer veel nieuwe groei (met name eucalyptus voor de papierindustrie eiken bossen hebben minder geleden). Nu veel algen waarschijnlijk tgv de extra toevoer van voedingsstoffen door de brand. Veel roofvogels (Wouwen), mooi gezicht. Zeer vriendelijke ontvangst door de beheerder (spreekt beter Frans dan Engels). Zij reed ons voor om lokatie van supermarkten en restaurants te laten zien. Zwembad ('infinity pool') aan de rivier was overstroomd (tgv wisselend niveau van stuwmeer) en nog niet schoon. Dit is 3 dagen na aankomst alsnog gedaan. Keuken en sanitair waren schoon. Her en der in de hoeken nog plukken stof. In de keuken hing een vieze lucht. Na uitgebreid zoeken bleek dit te zijn veroorzaakt door een condensbakje achterop de ijskast. Daarin vieze rottende smurrie. We hebben zelf nog een en ander schoon gemaakt. Kostte enkele uren. Tegemoetkoming door eigenaar in de vorm van een prima fles wijn. We hebben veel tochten gemaakt. De universiteitbibliotheek van Coïmbra is zeer mooi, grote ruimtes met verguld houtsnijwerk. Ook Tomar is de reis de moeite waard Convento de Christo staat op de Unesco Werelderfgoedlijst. Buçaco heeft een prachtig park met duizenden bomen van 100en verschillende soorten. Sinds de 12 eeuw door monniken aangelegd. De Fonte Fria (koude bron) loopt met terrassen bijna 200 treden naar beneden. Schitterend. Het huisje is niet eenvoudig te vinden, maar eens gevonden zag het er veelbelovend uit. Mooi ruime woning, elke kamer voorzien van een badkamer en dan de prachtige locatie aan de dao. Jammer genoeg kreeg die indruk enkele deuken. Wij waren daar met 4 volwassenen en 1 kindje van nog geen 2 jaar oud. Wij hadden dus om een babybed gevraagd, maar eens ter plaatse kon dit niet, omdat onze contactpersonen het zelf nodig hadden. Gelukkig hadden we er ons op voorzien door een reisbed mee te nemen. Voorts was de microgolfoven defect en bleef de douche aan het zwembad constant open. Dit waren kleine minpunten , maar geen ramp. Ook de vliegenramen zijn aan vervanging toe. Dit was ambetanter voor ons naarmate onze vakantie voorbij ging. (Lees verder in commentaar). Verder zijn Hygiëne en properheid het belangrijkste voor ons aangezien onze zoon alles in zijn mond steekt. Zo hadden we al snel door dat het huis toch niet zo proper was ... het begon bij veel spinnenwebben, dan begonnen we de muizenstrontjes op te merken en deze hoeveelheid kon onmogelijk op 1 of 2 dagen tijd gelegd zijn. Ook het zwembad werd niet gekuist. Enkel op de dag van ons vertrek is er iemand hiervoor langsgekomen.De schoonmaak liet dus te wensen over. Maar ach we poetsen zelf even en dat was dan in orde(dachten we) tot we snachts wakker werden en met een volgend probleem geconfronteerd werden. Sinds een paar weken hingen er 4 kleine zwerfhondjes rond de villa. Deze begonnen snachts gedurende 2a3 uur mooi te blaffen zodat je goed uitgeslapen aan je nieuwe dag kon beginnen. Bovendien deden ze overal rondom het huis hun behoefte, wat voor een heerlijke geur en de nodige vliegen zorgde. In het begin van de vakantie viel dit nog mee, maar aangezien niets opgekuist werd, werd de stank en de vliegen erger en erger. Als kers op de taart lag er op onze voorlaatste dag een hondje dood op het wegje naar het zwembad. Dit hebben we dan zelf in vuilzakken gestopt, waarna de contactpersonen ter plaatse het hebben begraven. Deze hondjes zouden ondertussen wel weg moeten zijn, daar ze deze gingen komen laten vangen. Dan naar de volgende ontdekking.. we willen lekker koken en wat springt er uit de kasten. Jawel muizen... na een grondige controle hadden ze goed hun best gedaan. Aan al onze eetbare inkopen, hadden ze lekker hun buikje vol gesmuld en ook snachts hadden ze geen schrik om je een bezoekje te brengen in de kamer. Toen we hierover iets zeiden, werd er niets aan gedaan. We mochten dus zelf muizen vangen, maar met een heel nest onder het dak was dit onbegonnen werk. We zijn het eens dat we in de natuur zitten en dat er buiten ongedierte kan zitten. Maar als men niets doet terwijl het in je eten en huis zit, dat snappen we niet. Op het einde van de vakantie waren we het echt wel beu door al deze factoren, ondanks al het moois buiten het huis. Conclusie mooie ligging, maar het onderhoud van en rond het huis liet te wensen over. Extra op de website staat dat er een kamer op gelijksvloers is, dit is echter niet zo. 2 kamers boven en 1 op de kelderverdieping. Voor ons geen probleem. Maar voor minder mobiele mensen en oudere mensen kan dit een probleem zijn. De omschrijving zou dus mogen bijgewerkt worden. Prachtig huis met veel ruimte op schitterrende lokatie midden in de natuur. ligt achteraf aan de rivier de dao ongeveer 10 km van supermarkt en resaturant. 's-avonds na restaurantbezoek over desmalle donker weg terug naar het huis is een belevenis maar vergt veel energie. Fietsen over autovrij pad langs de rivier, ongeveer 45 km lang. Auto is een must en daarmee zijn in de omgeving prachtige tochten te maken.
