A really nice property and an awesome castle. positives: clean and spacious rooms, great staff, great onsite restaurant and pub, very convenient for walking into town, ample parking, great historic ambiance. negative: some remote sections of the castle interior could use a bit of touch-up. My sons loved it, as did I.
The castle was large and interesting. It was fun walking through the sprawling hallways. The rooms were modernized enough for comfort, yet kept their old charm. There were several peacocks and hens walking about the property outside, which was amusing. The staff was kind and personable. Plenty of free parking.
Unfortunately, if you are intending on using the spa facilities, especially massage, facial etc., you need to book much in advance as those were unavailable on arrival.
A massive 13th Century castle, so understandably bits look a bit tired, but no worse than many of the stately homes I've paid to visit. Spent hours just exploring the hotel and grounds. Very easy access to the town centre, which is currently undergoing a makeover, the new paving looks fantastic. My only criticism would be that the wifi wasn't particularly brilliant, but it didn't cause an issue. No problem for us, but stairs may cause issues for people less able...consider requesting a ground floor room. Lots of places to sit and soak up the castle vibe
A very quirky hotel with plenty of character.
Staff were very helpful.
Breakfast presented a good choice and the eving menu had a number of choices.
Room was a little dated but to be expected in a castle.
Peacocks everywhere!!
Village centre is very quiet with a number of units closed.
Work was taking place on the central mm aren't square so a little unkempt and inaccessible.
Rooms are a little outdated but clean, staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was delicious and plenty of it. Grounds are vast but only small portion kept tidy. Peacocks on grounds are friendly and you can buy food from reception to feed them. Ruthin town/village is quaint and amazing to walk. Absolutely loved staying in the castle. Would definitely visit again. I went for a wedding and found expedia to be cheapest prices and I had slightly better (bathroom was more modern and i had iron and hairdryer )than people who paid more.
The castle and its grounds are stunning and great to explore and the village right outside the gates is lovely too. The roaming peacocks were a true highlight as well!
Unfortunately the room was not very clean and quite worn down, specially the bathroom.
Breakfast was ok but the food at dinner was unfortunately not recommendable
Friendly and professional staff, always happy to help. The rooms are good sized and clean, buffet style breakfast available with dietary options available.
Lovely hotel in a wonderful place, incredible historic building. Staff very friendly and welcoming, good service and excellent food. Rooms comfortable and well equipped. A wobderful mid-week stay and looking forward to going back again.
Yet another amazing stay at the Castle! As usual room is always clean and warm, staff always friendly. See you again in a couple of days!

It's was an experience we wanted, to stay in a castle. The Ruthin Castle has a ton of history. It's a bit run down but I guess that could be the charm. The bathroom was beautiful, the rooms (bedroom and living room) were large. Overall, the place seemed quiet and dark. There is not a lot to do in Ruthin. The staff was nice and the room was clean.
My last son and I stayed here every Christmas, since then I still come back with family every year. Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely rooms and beautiful hotel.
Stayed 1st - 3rd of June. Absolutely amazing stay for our mini moon. The staff, the food, the room were all incredible. We can't wait to come back, so much so we have already pre booked a suite for our one year anniversary May 2027. Very relaxing stay just what we needed after a manic wedding weekend. The staff can't do enough for you, nothing is to much. We stayed in 222 unfortunately the ghostly activity didn't live up to other people reviews or maybe it just isn't haunted 😊 Old castle with great character but definitely no ghosts just the morning wake up call from the peacocks which we loved no complaints there. Thank you for a great stay and we can't wait to come back. 😊
Second stay, just as enjoyable as the first. Staff are friendly, rooms are a good size though it can be a bit of a walk from reception and a little maze like. Nice location although the building itself is showing signs of its age. Spa downstairs is well equipped and there are lots of peacocks wandering around the grounds.
Area is very nice, close to Snowdon, not too far from Chester or the coast.
Rooms were lovely and clean, good facilities. Excellent breakfast buffet. Dogs well catered for!

Lovely setting - unique historical stay. Grounds were great with peacocks. Rooms were pleasant and bathrooms spacious. Hot water variable but it is an old building. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. However, the breakfast was disappointing - coffee was poor and was self-serve from a flask on the side (no other option offered eg latte, cappuccino etc), no defcaf tea available, limited choice of pastries, jams and fresh fruit. Had to ask for glasses, cutlery and plates.
