![Although this once tranquil fishing hamlet is now a popular destination on Peru's 'Gringo Trail', it has clung proudly to its fishing roots.  These narrow boats, made from the same reeds used by the Uros in the Lake Titicaca region, are still in use today.

They're known as 'Caballitos de Tortora', meaning "little horses" because of the way they are 'ridden' by the fishermen who use them.

If you wake up early enough (and I mean early; these fishermen are already casting their bait before the sun rises) you can witness an age old tradition in practice.

« Nous avons passé 4nuits dans ce Lodge magnifique au milieu de la nature et avec une magnifique vue sur les montagnes avec la neigne éternelle ( vue aussi de la chambre dessus). C'est un havre de paix pour ce relaxer et oublier la ville et le bruit et profiter des trecks qu'offre Bruno le propriétaire du Lodge. La nourriture est très bonne et les aliments proviennent du petit village qu'il y a côté et le petit déjeuné est top aussi! 100%nature! De plus le soir la cheminée allumée procure un...

« Tres bon accueuil de Juan Carlos. Nous sommes arrives la nuit et l'hotel etait fermee. Juan Carlos nous a ouvert et meme offert un cafe. Le soir de notre depart il nous a cuisiner un plat typique de son pays! Melva a ete aussi tres gentille en nous permettant de prolonger les heures de notre chambre vue notre depart en autobus a 23h30\. »

"Il faut noter la qualité et la gentillesse du personnel. La première réceptionniste m'a permis de rester dans la chambre au delà de ce qui est normalement autorisé car mon vol de nuit avait 4 heures de retard. La deuxième Dyanna m'a proposé une chambre mieux adaptée à mes besoins. Au restaurant c'était aussi un excellent service."

"Magnifique hôtel. Chambre spacieuse, paisible et entièrement équipée pour un séjour en détente. Le personnel est au petit soin et très accueillant. Les services de l’hôtel et le restaurant Perroquet valent le détour. Le petit déjeuné buffet et complet et propose beaucoup de choix d’une qualité soignée et le menu du soir est sublime. Une carte qui propose des plats raffinés pour une explosion de saveurs. L’hôtel est à la hauteur de ses 5 étoiles."
