9.2/10 Wonderful! (1,090 reviews)
My dear friend from southern California and I met in Portland for a 4 day vacation and we chose The Heathman, due to its perfect location, historical character, excellent service and attention to detail. We were not disappointed. The only bummer was the fact the restaurant is under remodeling, and there is no room service or bar for the next few months but breakfast is served each morning. I love how quiet the building is and the professionalism of all, especially the valet staff. There are so many amazing restaurants within walking distance, our favorite being Dolly Olive just a few blocks away. Also close to Powells, the Pearl District, Rose & Japanese Gardens, Saturday Market, as well as shopping, theatre and the Portland Art Museum (just a block away). Great value. We can't wait to visit again.

Such a great stay, warm and welcoming host. I only had one issue and the host took care of it immediately. The breakfast was amazing and the coffee was hot which was huge for me. My first B&B stay but definitely not my last.

8.6/10 Excellent! (1,128 reviews)
This hotel felt like a lot of pretension wrapped around a pretty mediocre stay. The bar had one major bright spot: an excellent mixologist and a genuinely good single malt selection. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience didn’t live up to that. The room was tiny, the bed was badly bowed and felt broken, and the wall-mounted AC had such a weak fan that it barely seemed capable of cooling the room. They did have a cool Tivoli Audio Model Three BT clock radio, which was probably the nicest thing in the room. Then came the nickel-and-diming. Two bottles of Evian sat on the desk at $7 each. Overnight parking was $40 through the hotel for the exact same public garage where I could have paid the city around $10. The food was overpriced for the portion sizes, and although the bar serves food, getting an order in took forever. We finally gave up and walked to Shake Shack instead. The bar atmosphere was also painfully pretentious, with plenty of older women very obviously prowling for company. Overall, this place charges luxury prices without delivering a luxury stay. One talented bartender and a good whisky shelf weren’t enough to make up for the uncomfortable room, weak AC, ridiculous markups, and slow service. I wouldn’t stay here again.
