The Nottingham Playhouse pushes theatrical boundaries with its eclectic range of plays, dance recitals and stand-up comedy. Set in a modernist building from the 20th century, the site is a hub of performing arts for the entire family. Bring your kids to the traditional pantomimes, where they can laugh and interact with the actors. Arrive at the theater and marvel at the *Sky Mirror*, a public work by artist Anish Kapoor. It features a large upright dish made from stainless steel that reflects the sky and seems to turn the theater upside down. Many of the productions created and finessed between these walls go on to tour. Choose from the great list of plays, dance performances and acrobatic shows that grace the stages of the 750-seat Main House and the 110-person-capacity Neville Studio. Improvised comedy and poetry sessions add variety to the lineup, while pantomimes and family-friendly shows keep kids entertained. Enjoy lunch before a show at the Playhouse Kitchen, where food and ale are available. Head to the Playhouse Bar in the evening for sparkling wine, lagers and ciders. You can order drinks for the intermission of a show. Enjoy the view from the terrace and try the homemade cakes and pastries from the Playhouse Café. Consider renting the playhouse as a venue for your wedding or conference. The theater was inaugurated in 1948, while the current building opened in 1963. Book tickets by calling or arriving in person at the box office, which opens Monday through Saturday from morning until evening. Youths and students can get discounts. The Nottingham Playhouse is on the eastern side of Playhouse Square in the heart of the municipality. Ride a bus to one of the stops on the adjacent street. However, it was a good price and has free parking so, for what I needed (3 nights solo accomodation whilst helping my son do some DIY on his house) it was adequate. (1,001 reviews) No phone is bedrooms is problematic in an emergency, I had to be liaising with staff via an online chat that I had to scan on the TV to find which is complex if you don’t know how. It was pure that chance I found out, I had to go looking when the contact numbers went unanswered or disconnected immediately Standard rooms are nice, however the rooms are quite run down and need maintenance in the form of paint work, carpets etc The club rooms are strange, the are large but quite empty, a chair here and there to fill space but needs a designer to look at it. I expected a fridge, and upgrade amenities. Bathroom had no bath unlike the standard rooms and was very cold with no option to fix it. I would take a standard room any-day, more compact and well thought out. Walls are made of paper, pray you aren’t placed next to the local lowlife or your restful break could become a nightmare Breakfast was limited, and was not made clear you had to order certain items that weren’t on display like fried or poached eggs. They claim they have a continental breakfast but there was no yoghurts, fresh pastry selection or ham/cheeses etc. Porridge was 10/10 The breakfast area is the same area the bar is in, so early morning whilst dining you see people coming in to order a pint in order to start the day which can be a little unnerving when they are in groups and a little boisterous.
