A beautiful rustic cottage full of character and period features
Y Bwthyn - Bwthyn Capten (The Captain’s Cottage) at Ty Capten
Y Bwthyn is a delightful cottage that was originally built in 1873 as a small farmer’s cottage. It has since been fully renovated and converted into a rustic cottage with exposed wood beams, feature stone walls and lots of unique features. One such feature is the original Crog Loft, a traditional mezzanine sleeping area in the loft overlooking the living area and accessed by a wooden ladder.
Y Bwythyn has two bedrooms and sleeps 4. There is a master bedroom on the ground floor and a twin bedroom up stairs, but it is possible to sleep 6 with a double bed that is tucked away on the mezzanine.
Outside, in Y Bwythyn’s private and secluded garden, you’ll find a decking / patio area featuring a luxury 6 person hot tub and garden furniture. The decking drops down onto a lovely lawn area surrounded by mature trees and shrubs.
Y Bwthyn is conveniently located just a short walk from Newport Town centre, and walking distance to the estuary and Parrog beach.

Overall the location is great,
The accommodation is lovely, and you can tell the original owners really cared for the place, although it's under new management now. Because of this, the images online don’t fully reflect its current look and feel. The kitchen is wonderful and spacious, and the dishwasher is very convenient. The bathroom features a fantastic bath, and the hot water is brilliant—ideal after a day exploring. However, the plastic pipe attachment serving as the shower head takes a bit of getting used to.The super-king bed was particularly comfortable, offering plenty of room to spread out without bumping into your partner—a luxury if you've been married for 15 years! Enjoying a coffee made with the provided French press while watching the sunrise through the French doors was delightfulHowever, the living room was disappointing. Online images depicted cozy seating arranged neatly around the fire, but in reality, there was only one two-seater sofa awkwardly placed in the middle of the room, which gave the impression that furniture had been removed. It felt somewhat sparse, and that was a bit of a letdown. For me, imagining how a place will feel before arriving is part of the excitement, so the mismatch dampened our spirits slightly.Additionally, you're somewhat overlooked by the owners and neighbours while using the hot tub. Unfortunately, during our stay, the Wi-Fi and Smart TV weren’t working, and the regular TV lacked an aerial connection. We contacted the letting age
Lovely property 5 mins walk into Newport centre . Beautiful garden , private and closed in for dogs. Parking and all amenities. Hot tub , great for a getaway. We were a couple and two dogs. Plenty of room for us. Could do with a hairdryer 😉🙌
Easy to locate. Helpful property manager.
Beautiful house with everything we needed , like a second home. Neatly managed property.
Close walking distance to beach , coastal walks.
We would go there again and again. Thank you
A truly stunning property and location. We had the most perfect long weekend.
Pictures do not do the property justice, it was so cosy and spacious at the same time.
Only one niggle lack of cooking pots for oven use, we generally like to eat in, but found it difficult using the oven due to lack of equipment, but other than that we can not recommend enough 10/10.
We will definitely be going back very soon. xx
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ty Capten. We did book the Bwythyn but the boiler wasn’t working the owners got in touch and offered us the house. Even though the house was to big for the two of us it still felt cozy and warm.
The property was full of quirky art work that we loved, the furniture was a mix of old and new but really worked together.
It was a few minutes walk to the village where there we plenty of places to eat, we also enjoyed a few coastal walks.
We would definitely recommend this amazing property and also the Bwythyn.
