Second time here. Clean comfortable spacious room. We found the bathroom fan and the intermittent noise from the masserator toilet annoyingly noisy. Bar staff were very friendly and fun. Really all staff great. Good parking at the back of the hotel. In the heart of Melrose. Happy to visit again.

We had a nice stay while doing the Borders Abbeys Way, beds were comfortable, staff were very friendly. Breakfast was plentiful with lots of options and we also had dinner in the restaurant. The bar was a meeting place for locals which gave it a nice community atmosphere.

To start with ... the positives .... the car park is large; the staff were smiling, helpful and courteous; the breakfast was very tasty and portions generous; the room was bright, large enough and clean. The location is very central and very convenient for the book festival, shops, the abbey etc. As an old market-town hotel we guessed it was probably a little in need of upgrading/maintenance and it is ... with some scuff marks etc but staff keep it clean. We were at the very back of the hotel and it is a bit of a rabbit warren. Folk with mobility issues might struggle with cases (no lifts) but we were forewarned.
