Campfires, Farm, Trail & Kayaks Authentic yet modern log cabin nestled by the Shenandoah River in Luray, Virginia on our hobby farm. Over 800 5-star reviews! Remote workers\` paradise! Acres of private riverfront. Use our water equipment and walk the trail. Cozy up next to the wood-burning fireplace in the winter. Easy drive to the Luray Caverns, Shenandoah National Park, George Washington National Forest, Massanutten or Bryce Resorts for skiing, and much more. Fresh farm eggs and firewood sold on site. You will be staying in our Daniel Boone cabin, which is our largest cabin and perfect for two to three families or a group of friends. This historic, pioneer style cabin features hand hewn logs dating back to the eighteen-hundreds, paintings from the original owner, country kitchen, and a Baldwin piano. The cabin was lovingly relocated and nestled on 16 acres in an idyllic setting along the bank of the Shenandoah River. Enjoy morning coffee on the large screened in porch while you watch the beauty of the mountains and river unfold. Spend the day canoeing, kayaking, tubing, or fishing and the evening catching fireflies, roasting marshmallows over a campfire, grilling, playing board games, or sipping spirits by the river. On the colder days, cozy up next to the authentic wood burning stone fireplace. Note we have three private cabins on the property. Each cabin has its own campfire pit and grill. Our Annie Oakley dock is great for launching kayaks or canoes or just fishing and hanging out. Walk our Lewis and Clark trail to enjoy wildlife and river views. Let the little ones wade into the river and splash around at Pocahontas Point. \*\*Fireplace Closed April 1 to October 31\*\* Riverfront Pioneer Cabins, LLC is a licensed rental. Nightly rate includes state and county lodging taxes. FIRM NO PETS POLICY (for safety reasons, this includes service animals). Animal lovers welcome, however! This is a hobby farm, and we have other free-roaming pets on the property...dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, pigs, and honeybees. Co-mingling animals could be disastrous to our livestock and your pet. On site is a mile long trail that loops around the property. You have access to plenty of water equipment: tubes, kayaks, paddleboards, and canoes...enough water equipment for all guests to enjoy. We have many adult life vests as well and four youth vests. You can access the river directly from our pier. There is a firepit next to the river. The cabin is minutes from the Shenandoah National Park and George Washington National Forest hiking trails. About a ten-minute drive away are shops perfect for antiquing, the Luray Caverns, an adorable movie theater, restaurants, zip lining adventure, animal rescue zoo, distillery, golf course, brewery, vineyard, and the Luray Caverns. We are also within an easy and scenic drive to area wineries and Massanutten and Bryce ski resorts. See our Guidebook for more places to visit! While we hope you spend most of your time outdoors, we do have a TV, DVDs, Roku, and board games. Lots of toys/games for children; perfect detox for them to unplug. Remote workers (and kids) will love our fast internet! We live on the property in the barnhouse. We are available via app messaging, which is the best way to reach us. You might see us around the property during your stay. We love interacting with guests but also respect your privacy. We are on 16 acres and surrounded by farmland and the Shenandoah River, nestled neatly between the Blue Ridge and Massanutten mountains. There are three cabins on site but plenty of privacy and room to roam and explore. Sleeps 11, but functionally it was difficult with only one shower/tub and dining area that seats only six. Glad to have picnic table on screened porch as that’s where every meal was had. Kitchen has everything but SO SMALL it’s really hard to prepare a large meal. Wish cabin wasn’t so dark inside and that the internet had worked ... even if only half the time. This property is most definitely ‘off the grid’. Although cabin is waterfront, you cannot see the beautiful Shenandoah from it; very sad for us. The men and boys loved the kayaks and canoes —- appreciated life jackets of every size being available. Firepit and Adirondack chairs were used a lot and we had tons of laughs in the yard. If you’re allergic to cats this isn’t the property for you - they’re everywhere!!! Friendly, but can tell they run the show and are very at home outside AND inside. Our family had a wonderful stay at the Daniel Boone cabin. It was clean on arrival and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The location is close to Luray Caverns and a number of hiking trails. The grounds are peaceful and there were a lot of wildflowers by the river. Annie Oakley trail which was nice. What I loved most was the history of the cabin with 19th century hand hewed logs, real wood floors, and a lot of old country charm. Staying there brought you back to a more simple time. The Kitchen was small but well supplied with everything we needed. There are two grills out back available for guests to use. Our family really enjoyed being right on the river and having the kayaks and canoes available to use. The hosts provided a croquet set which my kids really enjoyed playing. If you enjoy playing games, the hosts have supplied plenty to choose from. We brought our own boggle game and enjoyed looking up challenge words in the biggest dictionary I've seen. There are no TVs in the bedrooms which is fine by me. We also did not have good cell reception, but there is Wifi which worked OK most of the time. Some cons were the squeaky floors which made every movement heard by the whole house. There is only one bathroom with a shower on the first floor, which did not seem to be a problem for us as we were all on vacation time and in no hurry to get anywhere, but the house could potentially sleep 13 so it might be an issue with a full house. There is a powder room with toilet and sink on the second floor where most of the bedrooms are. Bathrooms seemed up to date and clean. Plenty of hot water. The attic area where our boys slept was warm when we arrived but there is a window a/c up there and after a couple hours the boys said it was comfortable. The lighting in the living and dining area could be improved. You need to open a window to vent the kitchen and bathrooms. Smoke alarm is a bit sensitive. Overall, it is a wonderful location and a wonderful house. I would love to go back ##### Kathy S. Its historical charm swept us away from our city energy, and we enjoyed catching up with family by fireplace, on the small trail, by the water, in the nearby caverns, and over a home cooked Thanksgiving dinner. (My mom brought a roaster cooker for the turkey to keep the small kitchen freed up for other dishes.) Very clean cabin with the basic common amenities. The property was rustic and authentic, with enough modern amenities (wifi, etc) to satisfy all. Our favorite part was making a fire next to the river and spending time fishing on site. The location was close to shopping (about 10 minutes from a Wal-Mart), which allowed us to easily stock up for our stay. We visited down town Luray, Luray Caverns, the Luray Rescue Zoo, took a hike in the Shenandoah National Park, and even took the kids on a JMU tour. Jennifer left clear instructions and guides to local spots of interest, and we were able to meet Bonnie, who takes care of housekeeping and does a fine job preparing the home for guests.
