![There are two ways to see the Grand Buddha, one is to walk down from the top near the head and end at its feet. This involves some waiting in line and larger crowds, but is quite intimate. The other option is to approach it by the river from a boat, and view it from that angle.   We ended up doing both.  

Boats depart from the Leshan City pier and you do get a different perspective as there are numerous carvings on both sides of the Buddha that you cannot see from land
