NCDOT operates three stormwater ocean outfalls in the Town of Kill Devil Hills. These stormwater outfalls were installed in the early 1960s. They allow rainwater to drain away from the lower areas between the highways of U.S. 158 and N.C. 12, which assists with flood prevention. (See photo gallery) The town recommends not swimming within 200 ft of this pipe. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality regularly monitors the outfall sites and collects water samples to ensure there are no contaminants that would threaten human or marine life. Beach Access: Convenient private access to the beach from house. Our 4 generation family stayed in Hatteras for 18 years at the same rental vacation home every year. After the passing of my grandmother, we decided it was time to change locations and restart our tradition in a different home. We tried a different home last year and it wasn’t the “it” home for our family. This year we tried the Turtles Nest and the family loved its location and features. To see my family of 17 be so happy again, it was an easy yes to this being our new spot. What also sealed the deal for me was the customer service. But, needs some updates and cleaning ..needs a new outdoor grill, it looked terrible and had to clean and rig it for it to work. Refrigerator's were missing most of the door shelves and the stove tops had an awful smell, my husband tried cleaning the filters in the dishwasher and scrapped some mold from the filter area. The rest of the house was pretty much clean We lost internet in the house, for a couple days and had trouble resetting the modems for the Theater area. We used our personal hotspots most of the week.
