Rockworks Chalets No. 6 is perfect for a week-long or short break holiday, being ideally situated on the main island in Orkney close to all big sights and places of interest. It sits right on the coastline of historical Scapa Flow and has a view out towards the Italian Chapel, built by POWs World War II. This semi-detached chalet is cleverly laid out and finished, making use of the amazing natural light coming in from the seascape. Upon entering the property the hallway leads straight ahead to the marvellous open plan living space. It’s spacious and comfortable, and affords stunning views of Scapa Flow. The living area has a large corner sofa and 40" TV, the dining area is spacious and the kitchen is modern and has everything you would want and need. There are spacious double and twin bedrooms, and a large bathroom with modern shower cubicle also off of the hallway.
From No. 6 you’re within minutes of the main sights of Orkney, including the already mentioned Italian Chapel and Scapa Flow, but also the historical Churchill Barriers which are visible from the property. Kirkwall is a short drive away with its heaps of history centred around the magnificent 10th century St. Magnus Cathedral. Beyond Kirkwall and still only a short drive away, Neolithic sights are dotted across the landscape with the Stenness Standing Stones and the Ring of Brodgar not far from the property, meaning you can get there for a magical sunrise or sunset very easily. Another standout place to visit is Stromness, one of the most charming harbour towns you will ever visit. It’s crammed full of history and has a unique, mesmerising geographical location to savour from one of the many cafés or bars on the harbourside.
Orkney offers visitors so many things to do. You will find some of the best coastal walking in Europe along the west coast of all islands, with highlights being Yesnaby and the island of Hoy with Rackwick Bay and the world-famous Old Man of Hoy sea stack. The islands are also famous for fishing. Some of the best trout fly-fishing in Europe can be found in Orkney. If you’re so inclined, there are local guides that will take you out across the main island to the best spots. Sea-fishing is also popular and you can do this pretty much from the chalet. But more importantly, because the seas around Orkney are so rich and abundant in sea-life, there’s a unique menu of seafood to taste during your visit. The food scene across the islands is second to none and well worth the visit alone. Beach 10 miles. Shop ½ miles, pub and restaurant 5 miles and a cafe/gallery next door.
Rockworks Chalet No. 6 can be booked together with Rockwork Chalets No. 2 (UK7041), Rockwork Chalets No. 3 (UK7042), Rockworks Chalets No. 4 (UK7043) and Rockworks Chalets No. 5 (UK7044) to acommodate up to 16 guests.
Free WiFi
There are shared, coin operated laundry facilities on site. Limited numbers of cots and highchairs available on request. The local shop and post office is a short walk along into the village and opening hours are 9am - 1.30pm Monday-Friday (closed Sat/Sun). Outwith this the nearest shops are located in Kirkwall. You may wish to ensure you stop for groceries etc prior to checking in.
