About this property
Oceanside Artists Cottage, Dunfield, Trinity Bay
Enjoy Newfoundland’s unique, authentic outport living in Dunfield, Trinity Bay. Whale-watch from the wrap around deck at sunset. Winterizes with a cozy wood stove. Enjoy 5 minute proximity to Historic Trinity. Skerwink Trail, Fox Island Trail, Robin Hood Beach, Port Rexton Brewing Company, within 15 minutes drive. Amazing vegan friendly Two Whales Cafe is a must for coffee, lunch, pastries. Please note that the water at the cottage is not drinkable. Please pick up water on your way there. This is a charming, cozy and rustic old saltbox home warmed by a wood stove. It is brightly decorated, with white washed clapboard walls & wooden floors. There have been many updates including extra and larger windows, adding to the spectacular light flow of the cottage. This is my artist getaway where I come to be inspired by the landscape, so when not outside exploring, this is the perfect place to relax, draw or paint. There is an art room here for guests use, and colouring books, markers, crayons, pencil crayons and modelling clay for children or your inner child to create with. Many antiques, but new couches and beds for maximum comfort. Will be outfitted with snowshoes for winter in 2026!! Lots of trails for your perfect winter retreat. Please do not drink the tap water. You can pick some up on your way to there - at a gas station or grocery store. The cottage is 150 years old, rustic and not airtight. Despite keeping the cottage very clean, you may see carpenter bugs on the floor (they do not bite, get into food or bedding and are common to the area). Please save a photo of your Google map to the cottage in case your internet connection on your way to finding it isn’t good.

We arrived to a cleaning hiccup, but the host was responsive and effective in getting things sorted immediately.
We liked the house for two people, but were paying for a place that sleeps six. Our choice of course; choices were very limited in early September.
If mobility is a consideration, as the host notes, there are steps from the main bedroom to the bathroom - which are pretty well lit at night- and a steep staircase to the attic bedroom.

This cottage had a lot of character. It is a salt box house that the owner is updating. It looks onto the ocean, a starkly beautiful corner of Newfoundland.
The steps inside present barriers for individuals with accessibility issues. There is a high stair leading from the kitchen to the bathroom and living room level. The largest bed is on the second floor up a set of narrow stairs and with a low railing. If you get up during the night to use the washroom, the stairs would be tricky to descend. It has a strong smell of aging wood. One of us decided to use the sofa instead. Finally we had to bring water as the water is not potable. This is fine, but takes some planning.
Best for able bodied younger folk. Beautiful and peaceful location.
