We loved staying at this hotel. In case you don't know, this used to be a house for a famous Egyptian singer (Om Kolthoom) from the 60s and got converted into a hotel. So, the whole hotel is themed around this singer (photos, decor, signage on doors, etc.). I loved that because I love this singer. It is in a great neighborhood (Zamalek), surrounded by embassies and luxurious old houses on the street behind. The location is also good because it is somewhat central and you can easily take a taxi/Uber to other locations in Cairo. The rooms and bathroom are spacious. The balcony is just beautiful with amazing views along the Nile river. The staff were very respectful and helpful. The breakfast had many varieties of food and service was excellent. On our last day, we needed to keep the room till 6 pm and they allowed us to do so (of course with an additional charge). Again, the staff are very helpful. The kettle in the room was broken. I asked for a replacement and never got one. They do not leave a sheet with the extension numbers you might need. I got a hold of room service and asked for a copy of the menu, never got it. It was almost like they were hoping I’d forget I asked for things. Room service apparently also stops at 4 PM. The receptionists were unusually and irrationally hostile; they also kept repeatedly asking my friend and I what rooms we were in every time they would see us, like they were suspicious or something (we did not do anything suspicious). The bathroom had no hair dryer and no toothpaste or toothbrush like most hotels would have. The bathtub design was also really physically uncomfortable and I would have to lean back to even fit my body under the shower. The water flow was very weak and sporadic, but warm so that was something. It’s a beautiful historic hotel, the aesthetics are gorgeous and location is great.
