#### Gaze up at the the undulating hills and mountains that surround this quaint town packed with colonial treasures. Enjoy exploring the scenic countryside.

The quiet town of Betancuria has magnificent mountain views, charming architecture and a pretty church that is an iconic landmark on the island of Fuerteventura.

Many travellers visit the town to see the Betancuria Church. Admire its whitewashed walls and façade of colonial design. Relax in the tranquil atmosphere of the courtyard. Look around the church museum at its interesting religious artifacts.

Explore the pleasant sites as you walk along the small streets of the city centre. Investigate the pre-Hispanic relics in the Archeological Museum. Find out about the island’s paleontology and the societies that lived here before Spanish colonization.

In the Museum of Sacred Art in the town centre, browse the silverware, religious garments and paintings selected from churches on the island. The house is the former residence of religious leaders.

See art come to life at the Casa Santa Maria, where artists work as you watch. Purchase their handmade products as souvenirs from your trip.

Venture into the mountains to explore the Morro Velosa. For the best view of the hilly terrain, climb to the Mirador.

Betancuria’s small population is reflected in its quiet, charming ambiance. The town has a rich history, dating back to the turn of the 15th century, when French explorer Jean de Béthencourt founded it. Fly to Fuerteventura Airport on the island’s east coast, before taking a shuttle bus or taxi to Betancuria. The small town is about 20 miles (32 kilometres) west of the airport. The journey should take about half an hour. The mountainous town is just 2 miles (3.2 kilometres) west of Antigua.
