I always come back because the Excel Palace is so friendly. The property is a converted villa on the fringe of Golden Valley, and the staff are so welcoming it is rather like a second home. There is no restaurant on the premises, but the same people own the Chinese restaurant next door, where breakfast is served free to hotel guests. On my latest trip the hotel manager arranged a car and driver to take me to Bago for the day. The fare was 50,000 kyat (about US$50), which compared well to other prices I had seen on the internet. The driver was good, and accompanied me into the main Bago sites. Un gag : il y a un téléphone juste au-dessus de la cuvette des WC !? La salle de bains n'est pas toute jeune, mais tout fonctionne à peu près. La clim fonctionne correctement, avec télécommande. Wifi correct (un peu fluctuant). Pas trop de bruit dans l'hôtel, mais proximité de certaines chambres avec le restaurant voisin. Pour le petit déjeuner (compris), il faut prendre un bon à la réception, sortir sur le grand boulevard (New University Avenue) et aller dans le restaurant du même propriétaire (6:30 - 10:00). Omelette, saucisses, oeufs brouillés, avec thé et fruits (pas de jus de fruit). Our room smelt of smoke so ask for a non-smoking room if possible.
