This hotel seems like it is brand new, and everything was clean, but it also seems like they built it using the cheapest possible furnishings and finishes: everything from the pillows/bedding, flooring, mattress, cabinets, lighting, towels, etc. All of it was new but low-end. The mattress was quite uncomfortable. The road noise was loud starting in the early morning. Things you come to expect in a hotel were just absent (eg. tissues, do not disturb sign, ice machine, 24 hour front desk, etc.).

The Viking is one of the 1950s-era motels that are common on Interstate Avenue, from the days when it was one of the main arterials for visitors to Portland from the north. It has been renovated and well-maintained, though, and is a good choice for people looking for reasonably-priced accommodation in north Portland. It is very close to a light rail stop, and also to bike lanes and bicycle-friendly streets.

This hotel was excellent. The bedding was so soft and soooo comfortable. From the service at valet to check in to the grand opening of their breakfast and bartending downstairs. OH!! And their speakeasy was excellent.

This is a beautiful historic property. The room was clean and comfortable. The lobby area is beautiful and makes a great first impression when you arrive. It would be good if you could get a hot drink in the lobby area after 11:00am, but I am just being picky. On the whole the hotel was lovely. Unfortunately there are a lot of homeless people on the streets around the hotel some of whom seemed agitated and were shouting at us. My daughter and I did not always feel safe walking around, which was a shame as Portland seems like a beautiful city.
