About this property
Tranquil stone cottage by lovely lake.
Tranquil cottage by lovely Castelo do Bode lake, that offers you the best of Portuguese countryside combined with lakeside living. Ideal for walkers, cyclists, water sport lovers or simply for those who want to get away. The house is 300m from Castelo do Bode, one of Portugal's biggest lakes, and is ideal for families, couples or groups of friends. The house is self-contained with a garden and patio where you can sit, eat, drink or simply enjoy the views. (Alojamento Local 1945)
Swimming: Castelo do Bode (castle of the billy goat) lake is 300m away. The water is refreshingly cool in the summer and it is wonderful to swim in. There are plenty of fluvial beaches to choose from and there is a map in the house. They are all very close. Fishing is also possible and there are boat hire facilities in Ferreira do Zêzêre, approximately 20 min by car.
Cycling: The Ribatejo countryside is unexplored and there are plenty of tracks you can follow. There are two bicycles in the garage that are freely available for guests' use. It's an ideal way of exploring the countryside. And if you get lost don¡t worry all roads lead to a café.
Sightseeing: Tomar, the historical town of the Order of the Templars is a short drive away. The Convent of Christ on the hilltop is a must. The Sanctuary of Fátima, holy place of pilgrimage is around 30km away. Castelo de Almoural, set on a tiny island of the Tagus was built as a fortress in 1171. Lovely spot for a picnic. Torres Novas has many fine churches within its castle walls. There are many small villages around the lake that are worth visiting such as Dornes, a UNESCO protected village and Constância, right on the banks of the River Tagus.

This home was so full of charm and comfort. Every nook and cranny was beautiful. The surrounding area was stunning and we did not want for anything. The hosts thought of every detail needed. Extremely clean. Also the hosts were extremely communicative and kind.
Serene setting in beautiful Portuguese countryside
Spent a lovely week in this beautiful rental. While it is not next to the lake, it is a short walk down the hill. Visited Tomar and its wonderful historic sites, an easy drive. Relaxing in the garden was a great way to recharge.
After doing an extensive amount of research for my first trip to Portugal, I felt extremely lucky to have happened upon this wonderful home. The house was everything I had hoped for and more. The location is just remote enough to have privacy and serenity, but perfect to jump on the highway in any direction and explore. If you are so inclined, as I was, there are also plenty of areas to traverse on foot. There is a binder provided that contains all types of information on the area including walking trails, which is a gold mine. The hosts were able to give me some personalized ideas as well.
The house is lovely, well equipped and comfortable. The private garden and patio to relax or entertain in is so special. This will definitely be my first choice to stay when I return. Thank you so much for your hospitality. I highly recommend this rental.
Fantastic home - clean and roomy! no a/c but with windows open the cross breeze was briliant.

Lovely, quiet location in a rustic cottage. Great for families. Bathing in the lake was wonderful in the heat. Those who didn’t want to bathe could sit in the shade of the surrounding trees.
idyllic location with everything you need for a home from home. I f you want to get away from it all this is the perfect spot, very welcoming. And a lake for a morning swim. What more could you want

Great Place!
Our family spent three wonderful days at Casa de Pedra. The location is perfect for a relaxed atmosphere in the Portuguese countryside. Our kids (ages 11 and 7) enjoyed the lakeside - and the local, friendly dog they quickly named Puppy.
The location is also great for day outings, namely in Fatima and Tomar. We also took a day trip to the seaside resort of Navaré and loved the fact that we were there off season (read: almost no tourists and available parking!). We were also fortunate to see the sign for the Roman bridge that is located close to the highway entry.
I would recommend this wonderful cottage to anyone who is looking for some peace, quiet and lovely views. Additionally, the cottage is well equipped as well.
Thank you Wilf for sharing your home - and your insights. We hope to return some day!

Beautiful Lakeside Stone Cottage
We loved our long stay at Casa de Pedra. We found this stone cottage both peaceful and super equipped. The house is very comfortable and has a great view of countryside and lake. We walked everywhere around the lake, so pretty to explore. There is a bread van that goes by each morning, and we not only loved the fresh rolls but the pastries too! Located just outside of Tomar, we found it quite easy to explore. Easy access to the ic9 and a23 meant trips to Nazare, Batalha, Alcabasa, Leira, Ourem and Fatima to name a few. This was our third visit to Central Portugal and we are hooked. Thank you Simona and Wilf for creating such a lovely holiday home to stay in. We look forward to contacting you again for another stay at Casa de Pedra. Warmest Regards Melissa and Tim Koscinski

Lacking words to describe a perfect Eden !
Maybe there is another place as beautiful and yet as wild as this one in the world, but Casa di Pedra remains unique to the 4 of us. Because of all the people around, because sleeping under eucalyptus beams is exceptional, because it is far from everything except the lake which is incredibly nice to swim in, and so so beautiful. I've visisted many places, I've been far away, but never was I so touched by a place. Thank you for sharing that paradise with other people. Thank you for being so cool (everything you could ever think of is there, including a coffee machine, a bread machine,) and the baker that stops by at the house everyday is absolutely awesome!!! Finally, it's the perfect place to visit: Tomar, Bathala, Alcobaça...So just go as if you were going to visit family, because it really feels like home!

A Home from Home!
Casa de Pedra is an excellent place to stay with everything you need. It's in a lovely setting with tracks, trails and country roads to follow and explore the many tiny villages. A large, comfortable living area and a well-equipped kitchen including washing machine and tumble dryer. The dining room is spacious and has a large sliding glass door to the exterior. The dining table is large with nice chairs and, thoughtfully, chairs for children. There is an excellent terrace with a large table and chairs with a barbecue. There are mountain bikes in the garage. The nearest town is Serra which we initially dismissed, but quickly came to like and enjoy. One of the ladies in the Post Office speaks excellent English. The supermarket is very good for such a small town and the butcher's shop next to the Cafe de Serra is very useful. The Cafe de Serra does no-nonsense food such as chicken and chips with soup and dessert and a pichet of red thrown-in for ridiculously cheap prices. beware the portion sizes and order one between two!! Have a coffee (or three) outside the little cafe and look out for the old Goldoni tractor with added modern bodywork - amazing The area round the casa door is a natural suntrap with a row of chairs where we had G&Ts and nibbles on most evenings. The lady who looks after the house is called Olinda, is lovely and lives just up the road. Everyone in the area is friendly and "Bom Dia" (good morning) and "Boa Tarde" (good afternoon) are obligatory!
If the water level in the lake is high, the "beaches" disappear! A visit to Castel de Bode to see the huge dam is a good idea and you can visit Constancia which is very interesting and Sardoal which we really liked. Dornes is lovely too. Tomar is the obvious attraction and well worth a visit. On the way in you can get an excellent lunch for a very reasonable price at the cafe in the Modelo Continente supermarket. We had four weeks in Portugal in this casa and another near the Spanish border and I've lost track of the number pf pastel de natas that we ate! The "Gourmet" ones in the Pingo Doce supermarket are superb!
People have commented in other reviews about the derelict houses nearby, but they didn't bother me in the least and I quite enjoyed exploring them and speculating on just what happened to this little village of Esteveira. The bread van comes each morning at about 08:00 and the large-bun sized loaves are wonderful in taste and texture. Some Spanish friends visited and loved them!
Just what we were looking for to start the trip. Rather scenic. Not to far from Tomar.

Obrigada, Simona!

Spring Bliss
This is a magical rural location. Glorious sunsets, bees buzzing in fragrant jasmine, wisteria, & climbing roses. A light breeze carried other pastoral sounds: sheep bleating, a rooster's crow, the quacking of ducks or geese passing overhead. Casa de Pedra is well-appointed for a peaceful get-away.
Full kitchen, a lovely dining room, charming dining patio, welcoming living room, restful bedrooms, and a much appreciated, eco-friendly washer and dryer. Every window frames a beautiful view. We heartily recommend this home, in every season!
