The village pub is within easy walking distance and it's a great location for exploring the moor. Main Description Sausage Cottage has an unusual, quirky layout, arranged over multiple levels. The cottage dates back to 17th century and is now joined to a stone barn-conversion by a glass conservatory, overlooking a pretty garden. This ancient cottage and barn have been lovingly restored over the last 20 years with a new kitchen, dining room conservatory and new bathrooms throughout. Sleeps up to 8 guests Four bedrooms; two in the cottage and two in the adjoining barn conversion Two king-size beds Two double beds Two en-suites Sitting room with wood-burner set within an art-deco fireplace Separate piano room plus separate TV room/snug Dining room with seating for 8 Pretty garden with outside seating and a fire-pit Cot and high chair available Local pub serving food within easy walking distance Wifi, heating and electricity included Bed linen and towels provided Dogs welcome for £10 each, maximum of 2 dogs per booking Arrive from 4pm Depart by 10am Indoor Description The kitchen is newly fitted and well-equipped with a double electric oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, an under-counter fridge and under-counter freezer. Other equipment includes toaster, kettle, a variety of cookware, kitchen utensils, cutlery, crockery and glasses. The dining area in the conservatory can seat eight at the table, and the dining room door leads to the garden. The downstairs sitting room is cosy with a low ceiling and wood burning stove, and CD/MP3 stereo with JBW speakers. There is a separate piano room, and the upstairs tv room/snug enjoys double-height beamed ceilings. There are two upstairs bedrooms in the cottage, one has a king-size bed and the second bedroom has double bed (4'6"). Travel cot and high chair available. The brand new bathroom upstairs also has a double height ceiling, and comprises a large bath and powerful shower, toilet and hand basin. In the barn there are two further bedrooms, one has a wood-burner and en-suite loo and hand basin; whilst the other bedroom has an en-suite comprising a shower, hand basin and toilet. Bed linen, duvets, blankets and towels are provided for your convenience, but please bring your own beach towels if you wish to take towels with you on day trips. Electricity and heating costs are included in the price of the accommodation. Sausage Cottage benefits from radiators throughout, as well as underfloor heating in the kitchen and barn. The temperature can be adjusted to suit your preferences if required. In the winter keep the wood fires burning and you will be snug. Logs provided. The cottage is double glazed and insulated. Wifi is available throughout. Outdoor Description A pretty path from the kitchen leads to a round cottage garden overlooking pastoral fields with a comfy bench, fire pit, dining table and chairs. The Red Lion pub in the village has a great menu and is family friendly, it's within easy walking distance. There is also a playground, football pitch and basketball hoop. The village also boasts a large church with medieval tower and 8 bells. Parking There is on street public parking opposite the cottage for 3 cars, however if these spaces are filled you can park in the church car park or further down the hill. Pets Description Well behaved dogs welcome (2 maximum per booking) but please not on the sofas or beds. We provide toys, food bowls, poo bags & rub down blankets. Sorry, cats not welcome. Christmas / New Year We provide decorations and logs for the fire The region Bampton is a charming historic market town in mid-Devon, perched on the banks of the River Batherm on the edge of Exmoor National Park. Despite its small size, Bampton has a surprising range of local amenities including pubs, restaurants, a late-opening supermarket, post office, butcher, greengrocer, chemist, and a heritage and visitor centre. The town has a rich history stretching from its Saxon origins through the Norman motte and bailey, the medieval wool and pony trade, and the quarrying of local stone. Bampton was awarded official 'Walkers Are Welcome' status in 2022, recognising the excellent network of footpaths that criss-cross the surrounding countryside. The town sits on the Exe Valley Way long-distance footpath and is also on the West Country Way cycle route. Exmoor National Park, Wimbleball Lake, and the Grand Western Canal are all within easy reach for walks, cycle rides, and outdoor activities. The annual Bampton Charter Fair was established by Royal Charter in 1258 and is held every year on the last Thursday in October. Originally one of the largest sheep fairs in the west of England, the fair today features a traditional funfair, street market, craft fair in the church, and local produce -- a wonderful community event with over 760 years of history.
